WOODLAND, Wash. – A missing kayaker along the Lewis River is presumed drowned, Clark County sheriff's deputies said.
The man, identified as 32-year-old Thadius "Thad" Roberts, was trying to cross the river on Saturday with two others who made it safely, according to Sgt. Duncan Hoss.
Searchers found the man’s kayak and gear later Saturday, but Roberts was not found. They’re searching the area near the Happa boat launch until dark on Sunday.
Ground searchers and the Clark County sheriff's marine patrol resumed the search Sunday morning, but still cound not find any sign of Roberts.
Deputies said Roberts wasn't wearing a life jacket, although there was one recovered from his kayak.
