Search for person heard yelling in the woods to be suspended
NORTH BONNEVILLE, Wash. - A search and rescue operation for a potential overdue hiker will be suspended at dark on Monday.
The search began after someone reported that they could hear yelling coming from the woods north of North Bonneville, Wash. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office received a report from a hiker who said he heard someone yelling for help at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night near the top of Table Mountain.
Deputies searched the area Saturday until the sun set. Sunday morning, more than 30 searchers returned to the area, at around the 3,200 foot level, according to Undersheriff Dave Cox. The search continued Monday.
“We have not received any credible physical evidence from the field that would indicate that we have anyone out there in the area at this time,” said Cox.
Cox said there were no reports of overdue hikers in the area.
POLO...
Just because noone told anyone they were going there.......does not mean someone may not be up there with no flashlight or possibly hurt.
@Taxedstwrker Correct. Also could be another homeless person who has no family. Are there railroad tracks in this area? Logging roads?....processing....
mountain lions sound quite a bit like a woman's scream... it's really eery when you hear it in the forest.
@rich Have you ever hear a peacock call?  If you aren't familiar with it, or aren't listening really closely, It does sound like a woman calling for help.  Although I wouldn't expect to come across a peacock out there. LOL
@rich When they breed they sound like a scared lady. But do they speak fluent clear english currently?
@Taxedstwrker @rich Oh fur shure...
If this is NOT a hoax or someone's stupid idea of a "joke" ~ and someone is really in trouble ~ I hope they find him/her.
If it turns out to be a joke or a hoax, I hope they find the person/people responsible and give them the bill for the search and rescue operation..! Â Â
If a person yells in the woods, will anybody find them?
Drunk sasquatch
This seems like a lot of resources being used for smoeone who may not even be in any type of trouble.
MARCO!!!!.......
@UselessOpinion POLO!!!
Smells a bit like a hoax, but erring on the side of caution is all people can do. If it does turn out to be a hoax, to the perpetrators, you're not funny, you're not clever, and you're not original, you're just another ordinary everyday idiot.
I try not to be judgmental about the content of "news" stories. Â But someone heard yelling in the woods and that warrants a story on a large metro area's ABC affiliate? Â Could have been a couple out in the woods for a daylight savings time celebratory tryst. Â Send in the National Guard?Â
@SundownerLEOs are probably hoping if it is a missing person that is might help them identify the possible missing person. Â This story might prompt friends/family/co-workers to follow up with those they know who hike and who they haven't seen or heard from in a couple of days which could generate a missing person's report. Â
@Sundowner I heard yelling when I was out in front of my house. Do you think perhaps I should have called for SAR?
