Security guard helps stop Wash. kidnapping
WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — An alert security guard at Wenatchee Valley College helped stop an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl over the weekend.
The Wenatchee World reports 43-year-old John A. Graff of Leavenworth was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree attempted kidnapped.
The security guard, Kevin Edwards, detained him until Wenatchee police arrived.
The girl had walking through campus on her way home from a store when a man approached her and started asking her questions. Edwards had noticed both the girl and the man walking through campus in opposite directions and ran toward then when the girl started screaming and trying to get away.
After police arrived, responding to Edwards call for help, the girl's father came to the scene. Police later interviewed the girl.
Good job Mr. Edwards!!
I guess he earned his MINIMUM WAGE that day. Security should pay at least a little better than Walmart IMHO.
 @special effectsÂ
Yes, security people should make more than minimum wage. But luckily for all of us, good people will step up and intervene whether they're being paid or not.
Good for the security guard! I think people are really starting to get fed up with idiots preying on kids, idiots trying to rob people, just criminals in general I think. It's about time, chalk up another one for the good guys!
hang him by his groin
Nice work and good observation skills.
Awesome outcome & major kudos to Kevin Edwards!!!Â
Great outcome, but there was no mention as to the guard using a gun to help keep the perpetrator "detained." Was he held at gunpoint? ...If it is, let's give some credit where credit is due! The Wenatchee World reported Edwards told the perp to "sit down and don't move, and he did."...That's it?
@angry1 A gun isn't always necessary to stop (or survive) a crime.
@CTWU @angry1 That's true, but when all we ever hear are the evils of gun ownership,it would be nice if the media report on the use of guns in stopping crime....... for a change.
Nice catch!
En garde! Nicely done, Mr. Edwards!Â
A true hero at work. Good job, Mr Edwards.
Kudos to the guard for paying attention and responding to the crisis....
