Sex offender pleads guilty to two murders

PORTLAND, Ore. – A registered sex offender changed his plea to "guilty" Friday to two counts of aggravated murder.
Mark Beebout admitted to killing 15-year-old Mayra Cruz Rodriguez and 32-year-old Nikayla Powell.
Beebout wanted to avoid a trial and the possibility of the death penalty.
The plea agreement reached with prosecutors calls for Beebout to receive two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
"We don't foresee that there will be any way that Mr. Beebout will ever be released from custody," said Deputy District Attorney Traci Anderson. "After serving one true-life sentence, he'll have another, in effect, to serve at that time."
Beebout killed Rodriguez in June and Powell in July.
He is scheduled to be sentenced March 14.
Given that he's admitted to killing two people (presumably to avoid the death penalty)....I think this perp is a shining example of a situation where immediate capital punishment should be administered. No trial needed. Skip the years and years of taxpayer burden while in the prison system.Â
Lock, load, aim, fire, be done...seize his assets and turn them over to the victims families with the sorrow of the state.
@honorbound Also we need a law requiring a governor's reprieve to be substantiated by evidence showing a legal, not moral, reason to stop said execution! Kitz has violated his oath of office by not allowing executions during his current term as governor.
He'll be out in 14 months if sequestration kicks in. FACT.

I think if you are found, without a reasonable doubt, guilty of premeditated murder, then you should die. Â Quickly too.
I guess being a sex offender gets more time for killing two than a trucker.
Just wondering how many posters on this thread have had a family member murdered? I have (cold case, too) and I am against capitol punishment for complex reasons.
@whirledworld I have and the murderer was only fined $50. He also confessed as part of a plea deal..... 1981, Alabama, drunk driver killed my fiance` 1 week before our wedding. We had known each other since we were babies! I want murderers and rapists to be removed from life! Why should the victims continue to be victomized by paying for these "humans" to be fed, clothed, given a warm and dry bed and housing, medically treated and entertained for the rest of their natural life? It cost's the tax payers over $200,000 a year to keep this thing alive. But it's worth losing fire protection and teachers to imprison scum such as this..... Good call! Plea deals on murder should not be allowed!

That POS should have done hard time for a long, long time with no parole. Same with rapists.

I think the death penalty should be automatic if more than one is murdered. We would have fewer a##holes to feed, clothe and shelter. It may even be a deterrent.

@CraigWe have an aversion to the death penalty because executing even a single person in error is unacceptable, not because people like this guy don't completely deserve to be put to death.

Lets see he kills two but is allowed to plead guilty and get room and board for the rest of his worthless life. We have a governor that won't allow the death penalty and we allow him to stay in office. Nice haven for criminals we are building here. Victims are quickly forgotten. After all they are dead. This is so very wrong.
Let's hope his life in prison is a daily living hell. Â
A reassuring thought! But he'll get all his meals, his medical attention, and even a baccalaureate degree, all at our taxpayer expense. The victims? They'll get nothing, as they don't have a support group......and don't get to vote anymore!  Â
@jpk I completely agree. We have failed for more than 200 years in our efforts of "rehabilitation." It is time to recognize that fact and start warehousing criminals - very basic meals, water, no TV or movies, no gyms that compare with the private sector, only emergency medical care, only donated books, no free education. If we make it unpleasant in prison and an actual punishment then maybe fewer would want to end up there.
As for the cost of this POS for life imprisonment - Unbelieveably it is still less expensive than attempting to execute someone with all the appeals, especially when self-appointed moralist Kitzhaber (who lives with his girlfriend at State expense) won't allow executions.
Can't fix these types of sex offenders.

In case you missed it, he got life without parole. By definition, no one is trying to fix him.

If I've ever seen the "Poster Boy" for the death penalty this is it.
Yeah, I killed them, now take care of me for the rest of my life.
Now they just need to house him in gen pop and let the other prisoners serve him his real sentence.Â

A plea deal should offer the option of a quicker death as opposed to a slower painful one. None of this no possibility of the death penalty crap.

@boned @JohnQ.Public Yeah, being an Oryguniun I am aware of it. The Governor states that the death penalty is unfair and needs reform, but I don't see a whole lot of reform going on. He's just forcing his personal beliefs on the public.
@boned @JohnQ.Public Yes, but once he's out of office the moratorium can and likely will be lifted. We'll see how much Oregon has changed it's feelings on this during the next governors race.
 I think that justice was not served when the plea agreement was made.
Too bad he still can't get the death penalty! Oh well, when he gets out in a couple of years, he will be a model citizen and get better at killing so he can't get caught! Shameful! Killers need to be killed! That's what the death penalty is for! Period! None of this rehabilitation crappp!
@jpk Amen! Unfortunately, Oregon has a death penalty in place, as we the people, voted to reinstate it. Sadly, the majority of Oregonians voted Gov. Putzhaber into office and out went what we voters wanted.Â
Oh hooray. 50 disadvantaged kids could get college educations for the cost of housing this killer. What a baby.. tough enough to kill, but too wimpy to die.
