SANDY, Ore. – The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office on Monday released the names of the construction workers involved in Friday’s fatal accident near Sandy.

Dewayne Douglas Smith, 33, of Hood River, died in the accident. Smith was married and served in the Iraq war, according to construction company owner Heath Stalcup. Smith had just started his new job as crew chief on Tuesday.

Idel UcChable of Estacada, 41-year-old Roger Cauich-Cante of Estacada and 18-year-old Joseph Hall of Hood River were injured in the accident, the sheriff’s office said. The severity of their injuries is unclear.

Stalcup said his employees were on top of an unfinished barn working with trusses when the trusses were disconnected from a crane and fell down. The workers fell then the trusses fell on top of them, Stalcup told KATU on Saturday.

The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating.
