SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon State Hospital spokeswoman says a security technician helping other staffers deal with a behavioral incident involving a patient collapsed and later died Wednesday evening.

Spokeswoman Rebeka Gipson-King says other staffers at the mental hospital immediately started CPR and the man was taken to Salem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. She says it appears the man suffered some kind of medical emergency.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says an initial investigation by one of his agency's detectives does not indicate there was any crime.

Neither the employee nor the patient was immediately identified.

Gipson-King says the event happened in one of the hospital's admissions and stabilization units, where patients live when they are initially admitted. She says as many as five or six staffers might be involved in dealing with such an incident. One of a security technician's duties is to help nursing staff in such cases.
