Man killed in shooting was a 'great mentor,' 'selfless'

WEST LINN, Ore. – Steve Forsyth's son is involved in sports so he was involved in sports by recording his son's games and cheering him on behind the camera.
Forsyth was killed Tuesday during the shooting rampage at Clackamas Town Center.
The proud father spent hours this fall behind the lens of his video camera capturing his son's football team in play and even more time investing in his son's teammates and friends.
And behind that camera lens, Forsyth could be heard congratulating and encouraging the kids.
"Be classy everyone! Be classy! Good job!" he said.
On Friday those kids eloquently expressed how a remarkable man positively impacted their lives:
Parker Warren: "He gave me lots of courage about playing lineman."
Dylan Jarrett: "Steve was like a great mentor, coach and like a friend." 
Mitchell Johnson: "Whenever I go to his house, he'd ask me, 'Are you keeping your grades up? Are you being respectful to your parents? All this stuff a kid and young man needs.'"
Ian Nadel: "He would always lift us up when we were down, and we could always talk to him and go to Steve whenever we were upset or anything."
Hunter Johnson: "He was a very selfless person. He'd put others way before him. That's what I really liked."
And if Forsyth were here coaching them through his death what would he say to them?
"He would tell us to stay positive and try to make the best out of it. Be happy, probably," said Braden Olsen.
They are lessons that will live on for the kids and their families.
"It was like an extension of the family to have Steve as part of Mitchell's life. He's going to be so ..." said Dave Johnson, his voice trailing off, unable to hold back the tears and finish uttering the word "missed."
Many of those kids have known Forsyth since they were much younger. He leaves behind his wife and their son and daughter.
A memorial for Steve Forsyth will be held Monday, Dec. 17 at the Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin at 4:30 p.m.
A memorial for Cindy Yuille, the woman killed in Tuesday's shooting, will be held next Friday. Specific details have not been announced.
A tragedy and not right. Â I didn't know him but, from what I've heard and seen, he was fantastic. Â Am praying for his family and for everyone else affected by this act of a madman. Â
Ahhhhhhh - such brave boys - talking about a man who meant so much to each of them. I am touched. And I wish I had known him too. Be happy. That is what he would want for each of you. Be happy and never forget him.Â

This is more like it. Â We need more media coverage about the victims and less about the perpetrators (and hence less immortality). Â
