Supporters of paralyzed teen ask public to donate just $1

SEATTLE -- Friends and family members are calling for special Thanksgiving day support for the teenage gymnast fighting for her life at Harborview Medical Center.
Jacoby Miles was paralyzed from the chest down after landing on her neck during practice.
Her supporters have launched a campaign, named "#B1namillion!", calling for others to join her fight by donating just $1.
"If everyone will donate just $1 to the TEAM JACOBY FUND we will raise enough money to get her the best doctors and the best treatment money can buy," said a post on a blog dedicated to tracking the teen's progress. "Let's give this ANGEL a chance to walk again." Donations are being taken at goteamjacoby.com.
Jacoby was warming up on Friday at Roach Gymnastics in Sumner and practicing a dismount she's landed countless times.
In a post on Facebook, Jacoby's coach said "she got lost during the second rotation of her double back and opened up early and then landed on her neck."
Her spinal cord wasn't severed, but Jacoby "lost all feeling from her chest down instantly," said her father, Jason Miles.
"It's very frightening to not be able to move," he said.
The most painful part may be coming to terms with her new reality.
"We've had to talk with her about what's going on and it's harder to see her try to deal with it," Jason said. And for her parents, it's tough not knowing what kind of life their daughter will be able to lead.
But Jacoby is a competitor and a fighter at heart.
"I personally think that's what is going to help her beat this, is that same drive," Jason said.
Jacoby is able to move her shoulders and has some feeling in her arms. While doctors believe there's a chance she could regain movement in her wrists, they say it's unlikely Jacoby will walk again.
But she and her family are hoping for a full recovery.
"We have to prepare mentally for the worst and pray for the best," Jason said. "I know God has big plans for her."

She will qualify for SSA instead of SSDI or SSI in some cases. SSA means she could get any where from 700 to 2,000 depending on what kind of Job her Mom or dad worked and who had the most income.
Plus with SSA one would be paying for there medication in a co-pay and therapy on a co-pay as well.
She still would be paying into society.
If she qualifies for SSDI she will be limited to what the state pays for a max of 750 and who can live off that?. They usually try to use the SSA first.
I know this to be a fact.
I think this is a worthy cause .
For one, its not her parents asking for money. It's people with big hearts trying to assist the family with the major expense that will be coming in. Instead of complaining, think positive and put yourself in their shoes. Gladly donated $5.00.
HarryJuku, I truely hope you are trying to sound like some big tough bully, Probably because your a much less man then you you should be. No person let alone a child should endure what Jacoby has to fight for. Many years ago while in high school, the Hermiston Wrestling team was on thier way home in a bus from a tournament, A semi tractor & trailor had air brake trouble (due to the freezing temps), hit this bus load of kids and two adaults head on. Our librarian was killed, one of the cheerleaders was (and still is) parylized. Because of a caring community and people unlike yourself, the cheerleader although disabled has become very successful in her will to lead a normal life. Grow up, pray for the girl (and for yourself), and I will pray that we wont meet.Â
Since she's DISABLED now she qualifies for SSDI coverage on her parents Social Security accounts and Medicaid until Medicare kicks in.....like millions of others get.
There are more important such as your daugther lying in the hospital than Facebook! Do anyone likes Facebook or trust it? I don't.  Good luck to Jacoby and keep fighting hard.

@HarryJuku So no one should ever play sports or do anything dangerous?  Sheesh, might as well just lock up everyone in a padded cell and never leave.  People get hurt all the time doing dangerous things such as driving to work everyday.  No one can predict who will get hurt when doing what.  Your comment is just mean and heartless. Â
@justanopionion  @HarryJuku lets remember not to feed the troll.
@HarryJuku I suppose you have never, ever in your whole life done something reckless?  I hope and pray that you never have to experience this kind of agony ever in your life.  It must be great to a perfect citizen and never need help from others.
What kind of world do we live in where a mother's  child is hurt bad and she has to go online and  ask for money to save her child.
@riderofthelegend A world where bankers control the economy, and drive us into recession, where we loose our jobs, and have no insurance....  I've been there... it stinks.

@GrandpaWBCHater Thank you.  Your meaning was so clear that your words are transparent!
