Surviving mall shooting victim released from hospital
PORTLAND, Ore. – The 15-year-old girl who was badly injured in the shooting at the Clackamas Town Center last week is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.
Kristina Shevchenko is in very good spirits, according to a Facebook page managed by her family.
The family posted this message Tuesday evening:
“Many of you have been waiting for an update on Kristina, the biggest update is that she is now home with the family and in very good spirits! She still has a long way to go until her full recovery but as of right now she is capable of doing everything by herself!”
Oregon Health and Science University confirmed Shevchenko's release.
Her trauma surgeon, Dr. Laszlo Kiraly, said she came to Oregon Health and Science University “seriously wounded with an assault rifle wound to the chest.”
She was awake when she arrived, but her lung and liver were seriously damaged.
Two people, Steve Forsyth and Cindy Yuille, were shot dead before the shooter killed himself.
The Shevchenko family said anyone who wants to send a card to Kristina can send it to the following address:
Kristina Shevchenko
PO Box 3113
