Police arrest woman after fatal stabbing in SE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police have made an arrest after a man died from stab wounds Tuesday night in Portland.

Police said Darryl Curry, 48, was found dead after officers were called to an apartment complex on S.E 125th Avenue just south of S.E. Division Street at about 9:30 p.m.

Police also said they arrested Neta Mangum, 51, on manslaughter in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon charges.

Lea Morrisey, who was near the scene of the stabbing, said she heard a woman scream for help but did not know a stabbing had taken place.  "It's really upsetting," Morrisey said after finding out about the crime. "I haven't lived in Southeast long but ... not good."

Family and friends of Curry gathered near the scene of the stabbing Wednesday morning but did not share any information about the incident.

Mangum is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center in Portland on $255,000 bail. A medical examiner determined that Curry died as a result of the stabbing.

Investigators said Wednesday morning they were interviewing people connected to the case and have not said what the possible motive for the stabbing may be.
