Mitchell Kelly, 17, appears in court Tuesday, July 8, 2014 accused of sexually abusing young girls. He pleaded not guilty.

HILLSBORO, Ore. – A 17-year-old Beaverton teenager accused of sex crimes against small children pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

Mitchell Kelly is accused of sexually abusing two 6-year-old girls at the Sunset Athletic Club in June.

Kelly is being charged as an adult.

None of his family was in the courtroom during his appearance.

Kelly looked scared and didn’t say a word, but his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

The judge set a trial date for Aug. 26.

Kelly’s attorney said he won’t comment on the case and thinks it’s best if it plays out in the courtroom. He also said it’s unusual for a case to go to trial so quickly, casting a little doubt on the trial actually starting at the end of August.

Kelly is being held on $500,000 bail.

Even though he’s charged as an adult, he’s being housed at the juvenile detention center in Portland.

Detectives are seeking the public's help regarding this case or possible additional unreported crimes committed by Kelly, police said. If you have any information, please call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at (503) 846-2500.
