Targeted with tomatoes for politics in Vancouver? Call police

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Vancouver Police Department is asking people to call 911 if they receive a threatening letter or have tomatoes thrown at their house.
Four times in the past few weeks, people have filed police reports – two incidents of tomatoes and two incidents of letters.
The letters that have been showing up at residences in Vancouver neighborhoods are from an anonymous group that calls itself the "Welcome Wagon." The letters warn people that if they have campaign signs supporting President Barack Obama on their property, they'll be targeted with tomatoes.
"We think there have been many more incidents," said Kim Kapp spokeswoman for Vancouver police. "We need people to let us know when something happens, especially if they see someone in the act."
Kapp said that in each of the incidents the victims reported they had not seen anyone committing the act.
Kapp said that Cpl. Drue Russell, a neighborhood officer in the West Precinct, had sent an email to neighborhood residents about the letters and attacks, urging people to come forward with information.
The attackers could face harassment and malicious mischief charges – both misdemeanors that carry the possibility of one year in prison and a $5000 fine.
KATU News has reported on two recent incidents.
I wouldn't mind the tomatos so much, but I would like to know who is leaving the zucchini on my front steps.
Obama supporters fling poo on romney signs...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxDzPyd4XX0&feature=player_embedded
What funny is that romnihi and robama are controlled by the same special interests; we are voting for the lesser of two evils!
 @portlandborn83 "Lesser of two evils" hardly applies with these people... It's just flat up a choice between two evils of equal stature, they just have different opinions on how to get to the same place. But make no mistake, we are all screwed no matter how we get there.
Noone has thrown anything at my Gary Johnson sign...
Amazing that individuals don't respect others choice of who to support. Regardless of who you support, you should still respect others choices.....I'm sure that these people would hate it if they were pelted with tomatoes, but apparently they think its ok to do it to others.....we all have differing views on various things, but why can't we just respect others choices? Ok you may not agree with it, but no reason to go and do things like this....throwing tomatoes is one thing, but what's next, nails under the tires or bricks through the windows? Shameful that society has gotten to be like this....I have individuals around me that will chastise me cause I don't support their choice....and its not just normal good natured disagreement, but that I'm an idiot for my choice....when I grew up we were taught respect, but these days it seems like its gone out the window
Republicans...ignorant and violent.
 @criticalreason  I wonder who's been threatening Stacey Dash for declaring her intent to vote for Romney. Any ideas?
 @criticalreasonÂ
Â
Going to make a correction of your statement there:
Â
People... ignorant and violent.
Â
Republican's don't have a monopoly on being stupid, mean and anti-social.
Â
But on the flipside, I have difficulty involving the police in any type of vandalism that disappears the first time it rains. Â
Â
@criticalreason you need to do some research on the occupy movement.
 @mcdizzle Bam!  Nice comeback.
Whether or not I agree with the angst that causes people to toss tomatoes, the boundary of our rights END near the boundaries of another citizen. These clearly cross even those most basic lines. Messing with people like this, based on who they appear to support is illegal is it is a form of intimidation. Fine citizens do not get a free pass from lawfulness just because they are upset at the political landscape. The law does not differentiate between people were being targeted for another characteristic such as religious affiliation, gender, or race; when it comes to categorically targeted harassment.
Â
How can we expect people to be good citizens when they demonstrate they weren't raised with appropriate respect for other citizens?
Â
Catch em. Prosecute and make an example and perhaps others can learn from the poor example. This is how our system is supposed to work. Or strike the harassment laws from the books and lets arsehats be arsehats until someone escalates to violence. Which is why the laws were enacted in the first place. FFS people fail at paying attention in school.
Â
Â
Roger that. I care HOW people vote, but I care even more that they DO vote. This crap about not advertising you support for a candidate is just that--crap.
There's a large yellow and black sign on se Oatfield road in Milwaukie that was spray painted over two days ago. It's a political sign that also states: "Stop Portland Creep" . I won't hold my breath waiting for KATU to do a feature story on this one.Â
@last boyscout  "Stop Portland Creep" The mayoral election will stop him.
Two things:
1)" The Vancouver Police Department is asking people to call 911 if they receive a threatening letter or have tomatoes thrown at their house." What the hell is that going to do but waste tax payers money and cops time? Without pictures or evidence nothing can be done.
2) As usual, The cowards way. Not enough balls to stick up for whats right (in your mind) so sneak around thowing tomatoes and letters from an anonymous group that calls itself the "Welcome Wagon." Guess that I would be ashamed if I was a republican. What happened to the days of being proud of being an American and proud of your political candidate?
@iamtroglodite Seriously... proud of being American... proud af a puppet, er candidate.... Waaaay too late for that.
The point is to be a proud American, and if you are going to go to the trouble of voting, no matter who for, don't be a punk and throw stuff at other peoples house in the middle of the night to show support! Have the balls to support your choice in daylight! I am not for the "Same sex marriage", in fact I am against it, but I have a hell of a lot more respect for the gay folks fighting for their rights in the daylight than a bunch of wanna-bes sneaking around in the dark trying to throw crap in peoples yard just because they vote differently!
For the most part, Republicans SHOULD bed ashamed.
 @Mechanic Trust me, we're very ashamed - of democrats.
Un American liberals taking away our freedoms and drowning us in debt for free phones that further enrich corrupt Mexicans.
Â
Remember in '08 when libtards were keying cars with McCain stickers?
Â
Horrible people with no shame. They even backed a guy who they knew was most likely molesting an underaged boy!
Â
Typical Portland. Keep Portland hypocritical.
 @iamtroglodite Who says it's Republican?
LOL. Leftists are flinging their own feces Romney signs in Virginia. As with all things associated with Obama (PBUH), it will soon come out that this was a setup by leftwingers.
And you know this how?
 @Mechanic Well, I do a little trick when reading the news. It's called reading many sources, not just MSDNC.
Did you know there are actually people in America that don't want free phones and food stamps? Shocking revelation to you, I'm sure.

Â
Â
Watch the video, see the baboons with your own eyes.
Why are we dredging up this story again? This came out two weeks ago and it was a pretty lame story then. Political sign vandalism goes on all the time on both sides (from the left mostly). Wow, 4 tomatoes in your yard; didn't even hit your house. You must sleep in absolute terror! If the only cost of a democratic republic is a few vegetables in my yard, let them fly!
@Scotty9 Because KATU has nothing better to report. this "news" station is a joke. I feel bad for anyone who uses these crap local stations as their only news source. pretty pathetic...
"Four times in the past few weeks, people have filed police reports â two incidents of tomatoes and two incidents of letters."

Â
Old news is new again or it's KATU campaigning for the Democratic party. The focal point of the picture is the sign in pristine condition not defaced with tomato guts.
Â
Â
I don't care what your party affiliation is or who you support...NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO SPEAKING OUT IN A VIOLENT WAY!...What the hell has happened that we have to resort to such childish and threatening behavior just because you disagree. Â People who lash out like this need to understand that they are not helping anyone...all I can say is GROW UP!
When life gives you tomatoes, make marinara sauce.
mmmmmmmmmmmm PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trying to bully people into not expressing their rights of free speech is un-American.  These people should move to a communist country where they will enjoy real suppression of free speech. Â
 @MFMFIM It sounds like standard procedure.. for Pakistan.
Im proud of our President AND my yard sign!Â
@eyeonchina and what exactly are you proud of??? LOLZ
Republican COWARDLY BULLIES at work! Anonymous (of course LOL) behaving like 12 year olds having a tantrum. Â The KKK hide behind hoods too...
Â
 @eyeonchina The KKK was started by Democrats. This was probably done by democrats to try and make the republicans look bad. There are far more violent acts by the left than the right.
 @eyeonchina  "Republican COWARDLY BULLIES at work! Anonymous (of course..." I agree! I hate anonymity!
Â
Â
So,what's YOUR real name?
I remember how much we from the Grand Old Party didn't like some bicyclist stealing Republican signs from someone's front yard.
Â
This isn't much different.
Â
From another news site this started out with someone throwing tomato's at the local Democratic campaign office. The police weren't too interested, and the workers were resigned to cleaning up the occasional mess in stride.  No one was throwing anything hard enough to break the windows.
Â
Stealing from and vandalizing individual property I think crosses the line.
Only a few more weeks... then we can put this nonsense behind us for awhile longer.
Oh boy, vegetable bullying. Tomatoes will be out of season soon so the problem should take care of itself.
The police have better things to do then to play "Nanny State" but then again, any one supporting Obama really needs to examine the situation at hand.
Whiners......
What a waste of a police officers time.
If you offend your neighborhood bad enough, retaliation could come in many different ways. I'm not saying that it is right. I'm just saying....
Probably just a bunch of Obama supporter trying to bring attention to their signs. I have noticed very very few Obama signs in Eastern Oregon.
 @minniemouse Nice try
 @minniemouse Only the severely mentally challenged would actually vote for Obama.
 @Jamie  @minniemouse Your post is just sad.
 @MFMFIM  @minniemouse I rest my case.
