Teen killed in snowboarding accident remembered for her faith
SANDY, Ore. – Friends and family said their final goodbyes Friday to a teenage snowboarder killed on the slopes of Mount Hood at Skibowl.
Taylur DeWolf, 17, died last Friday night when she veered off course and hit a tree.
Hundreds attended her funeral at the Assembly of God Church, which was a big part of her life. Taylur's faith was the No. 1 priority in her life even in her last moments just before she crashed. A friend said they were praying for peace and protection just minutes before the tragic accident.
Her father, Harry DeWolf, held back tears and had a message for all the fathers in attendance: tell your children you love them every day – don't have regrets because you never know when one of them will be taken from you.
"We had Taylur for 17 perfect years. God gave us to her pure and he took her back pure. No regrets," he said. "I want you to love your kids, I want you to hug your kids, I want you to tell your kids you love them every day. I have no regrets."
Those who came to Taylur's funeral to support the family passed out bracelets with her favorite color purple and her favorite Bible verse. They really wanted to make it a celebration of her 17 years of life.
The church was where Taylur spent a lot of her time, devoting herself to her faith. That was how everyone remembered her – a young woman with a passion for God.
One person after another stood to share a memory of Taylur – from Girl Scouts to worship band to student government. And each time, they thanked her parents for allowing her to be a part of their lives.
A memorial fund has been set up in Taylur's honor. Those interested can send donations to the Taylur-Up Youth Fund at the Sandy Assembly of God Church. The donations will be used to help the family with funeral expenses.
