EUGENE, Ore. - From the Oregon Trail to the Oregon Ducks, the Beaver State holds a special place in the hearts of many people.
So it's fitting the state celebrates statehood on Valentine's Day.
"I've been around and around," said David Jacobson of Veneta, "and I tell you there's no other place I'd rather be."
Oregon joined the Union as the 33rd state on February 14, 1859.
To celebrate Oregon's birthday, KVAL News quizzed residents on some of the state's official symbols.
The state animal?
"Beaver!" Jeffrey Williams of Eugene said.
Correct!
How about the state bird?
"It's the mallard duck!" Maya Thomas of Eugene said.
Sorry, that's incorrect.
"I don't know," Williams said. "Blue jay?"
Nope.
"That would be the meadowlark," Jacobson said.
We have our winner.
Next: What is the state beverage?
"I would have to say ... that's Ninkasi," Jeffry Henshen of Eugene joked.
Close? It's milk.
The state bumper sticker is an Obama'Biden (on a Subaru or Prius) followed closely by the ever ubiquitos "coexist".
I believe that the state flower is the satellite dish.
Bird - middle finger
Animal - freeper
Beverage - If it ain't beer ...
Happy Birthday, Oregon...the best dang state in the entire U.S. of A!
They forgot the official state nut- the Hazelnut
Heart in Oregon? I seriously thought that was like a medical marijuana sticker.
I.Q. or trivial knowledge. Â
State bird is the Western Meadowlark. And, can anyone remember seeing one recently?
@Saltire  I see them all the time. They look just like starlings.
@HenryBowman @Saltire My new avatar is a picture of the Western Meadowlark. Just to refresh your memory. :)
