The case against pit bull's attacker at standstill

LONGVIEW, Wash. -- Nero the pit bull is recovering from a fractured skull. The prosecution against his accused abuser, however, is at a standstill.
The convoluted case of the attack on the pit bull and his recovery has generated quite a lot of interest from the public.
Calls have come in from Georgia and Oklahoma from folks interested in adopting the injured pit bull.
The case began several months ago, when the dog’s owner told officials that Nero was dead. Officials say Chad Miller told them he had struck the dog after Nero ate his doughnuts and then the pit bull bit him.
From there, Miller reportedly told animal control officers he killed the dog with a sledgehammer and buried along Rose Valley Road east of Longview.
Several days later, though, some folks found Nero injured but still alive. Presented with the new information, Miller admitted that yes, he had tried to kill the animal and it had run off.
The case against Miller is now stymied because the people who tipped the humane society off to Miller have backed away from their stories.
The statute of limitations for animal abuse cases in Washington is three years. Animal control officers urge anyone with information on the abuse of Nero to come forward.
I have a 7 yr. old Siberian Husky who has the biggest sweet tooth. In past I had oblong Pyrex cake pan with half spice cake & cream cheese frosting sitting on butcher block to return home & find he cleaned the pan clean. As of recently, he managed to eat a whole box of Frosted hostess donuts with raspberry filling, & found the box clean. NEVER, could I even think that a punishment should have been given- the look & his ears pinned back- told me , Mom i couldn't help myself.
They are like Children who don't know any better, if you can't love A pet unconditionally- and accept that- then don't try to home one!
For those of you that keep asking, Why isn't the Longview Police Dept. doing something?  Rose Valley Area is County Not City. If you are in County- Its Sheriffs Dept. it falls into- which will only direct you to Humane Society. Not Right, But this is a County issue I've said needed change, but with budget cuts Seems to be a way to push the buck & place it into what is Operated though much of donations. So! With that being said, if you want & can, You can donate, by funding, food, bedding, kitty litter or valenteer some time walking the dogs, playing with them. Help with Cleaning.... This all helps. This is something wonderful for teens during summer vacations, or a family who is looking to adopt a animal. Take your children, let them understand its more than something cute for the first week, that responsability comes with it! I know That all this fella has indured, he will be the best loving pet to A forever Home. Â

Handsome dog. PITBULL or not this is insane and sick! Poor dog.
In Longview if you don't keep your mouth shut it can be shut permanently. I have seen numerous drug deals and other crimes but I value my life. It's not much of a life, but I value it.
@JLO Glad I don't live in Longview. I'm a 70 yr. old granny that wouldn't put up with it!
Not having all the facts here but it would appear that perhaps there are other avenues to pursue additional criminal charges, such as witness tampering, tampering with evidence, purjury, false statements to law enforcement, conspiracy.
Â
Witnesses initially make statements to LE and then over time they withdraw them etc., so the question is who got to the witnesses.
Â
If anyone ever touches my dogs I would not be going to trial over trying to kill my dogs.
This is exactly why pitbulls have such a horrible reputation, and everyone it seems, hate them. There isn't a dog alive that is 100% gentle and trusting. Some are a little edgier than others...but pits are being raised by the excrement of humanity for whatever purpose they feel they need a dangerous dog for. Pits are strong physically and strong in stubborness...don't blame the dog. Blame these creatures who abuse them and teach them to be always on their guard with either humans or other animals. This guy needs to be put away...then buried alive.
@fracas  Pitbulls are NOT dangerous dogs. Not all pitbull owners are the "excrement of humanity", in fact, they are the minority of pitbull owners. Problem is, all you read about in the news is about the minority of pitbull owners who in fact, do treat them poorly which can turn them mean. Any dog that is treated improperly can be a dangerous dog (yes, even those annoying ankle biters). This guy will move on to people next if he is not properly punished for the cruelty he imposed on the poor dog.
@fracas sledgehammer him first, then I agree with you.
How about a Louisville Slugger instead, seems to make it more sporting, Â then give him to the witnesses that recanted their testimony./statements
This entire planet is going nuts, not even animal abusers can go to jail?
and he admitted to it? and people just do not back down from a case unless intimidated by threat to bodily harm. if this is the case then shoot the guy not the dog.
1) I hope a loving family takes Nero in, he deserves people who will cherish him and treat him well.
2) I hope Chad Miller gets more than just a slap on the wrist, people like him make me ill.
3) Who cares if these people are backing away from their stories? Miller first admitted to hitting and then killing the dog over donuts. Then he recanted his story and said he hit and attempted to kill the dog over donuts, but it got away - and he didn't bother trying to get it help. Bottom line: he abused the dog, tried to kill it, and then neglected it after it ran off (knowing full well that it was severely injured). CHARGE HIM.
He is a cute mutt, love his smile. Something wrong in this country where some piece of crap rapes at least 4 women and is set free, but if you sneak a donut you get beat on, fight back and then a death sentance.Â
This person does not deserve the right to own any animal. He has always blamed the people around him for his issues but when it really comes down to it he is to blame he made the choices to be who he is, he really was raised right. He is a sick human being and i know from personal experience that he needs more help than can be given. I've personally never witnessed his abuse towards Nero but i know the kind of person he is. I hope that anyone that has witnessed this will step forward at least for the sake of Nero. There are ways to be a witness without having your name or picture posted. People do the right thing he should be punished for his crime and never allowed to do this again.
"Presented with the new information, Miller admitted that yes, he had tried to kill the animal and it had run off."
Â
WTF else do you need to prosecute him? Â By his own admission, he tried to kill the dog with a sledgehammer because he ate his donuts.
Â
I know the Pit Bull controversy runs hot, but if you can put that aside for just a moment, and realize that no living creature deserves to be treated like this. Â And any person who is capable of such cold-blooded behaviors is capable of far worse crimes against his fellow man.
Now you don't even have the right to kill your own animals?
Not for something stupid like eating donuts. It is not the point of putting your animal down, it is the psychotic way of thinking that comes to such an action. A hrsebreaks a bone way out in the middle of nowhere, sure you shoot him and put him out of his misery. But if you are stupid enough to leave food where a hungry dog can reach it and your such an a-s-shole you end up killing him over it you need to NOT have animals, kids or anything breakable.
Pit bulls are too dangerous to own. Â It should be illegal to have one.
@sortbait I'd say it would be illegal for you to let your thoughts be publicly known, but we all know you can't think for yourself.
@sortbait Keyboards are dangerous! sortbait should not be allowed to use one!
@sortbait Chad Miller is too dangerous to be loose.  More dangerous than a pit bull obviously.
@sortbait It seems that Mr. Chad Miller should not be allowed to own any animal, father any child, or have any kind of responsibility for those dependent on him for their care.  He is the one that is too dangerous.  How about outlawing him?
"The case against Miller is now stymied because the people who tipped the humane society off to Miller have backed away from their stories."
This is pretty disturbing too, as it's likely this jackass intimidated the witnesses so they wouldn't testify against him. Big problem in some parts of town, and very sad, because when people are afraid to stand up the problem only gets worse. No doubt Mr. Miller has spent his lifetime using violence to have his way.
. The guy is a  just a POS dog abuser. He BRAGGED about what he did. Wow. That says everything. And killing a dog with a sledgehammer? How many times did he beat it  to try and do that? Must have been several. Why not take the dog to the shelter? WHY?...because he just wanted to painfully torture the dog to death by beating it.Â
The people who are not coming forward obviously need some kind of protection for their own safety in that  area so they won't be revenged in horrible ways.
Â
Thank God this beautiful animal is in the hands of the Humane Society, where he can get the love and care he deserves. For those who have information about the atrocities Miller did to Nero, and to not come forward is nothing short of condoning his actions. Miller is clearly pyschotic. Those who have information do the right thing, be an advocate for a dear animal who cannot tell his story himself, and create some good karma.
I say, "Buy him a new hammer."
@Mechanic So he can use it on you next time? Come on now.
@advocatus diaboli @Mechanic Don't feed the inbred troll.
@Mechanic So... you are advocating animal abuse on this public  forum? Against the law and the K2 Livefyre TOU, you might want to remember.  Might want to delete your comment asap.
@whirledworld @Mechanic Don't feed the inbred troll.
Here's another one the public should fear. This creep deserves to be punished for his cruel crime. To the tipsters, I can understand why you be afraid. This creep is violent and not worth the air he is breathing but "Evil prevails good men do nothing." Please have the guts and the courage to come forward as witness and in defense of this dog. If you don't, a human may be next.Â
