Thieves break into NE Portland coin shop
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police are investigating a robbery at a coin shop in Northeast Portland.
Police found shattered glass and missing merchandise when they arrived at the Alpine Coin Company at about 4 a.m. Thursday.
The coin shop is located at NE 111th and Halsey Street. So far, no arrests have been made and an investigation is under way.
What exactly was taken from the shop has not been disclosed.
Police said a front metal door was pried open and they are looking for two suspects who wore dark clothes and were possibly driving a dark-colored SUV.
111th and halsey----- says it all.
I'm not quite feeling the sympathy for the owners. Â Jewelry stores have bars on windows, gigantic deadbolts on doors. Â But they put everything of value in their safe every night when they close. Â This owner should be doing the same. Â I guess the insurance company will determine if all the correct procedures were followed before they write out a check to cover the loss(es).
Perhaps coin shops like this one should find a safer neighborhood to conduct business in? Security looks good enough, but still.....? Could have been an inside job, or thieves that did their homework well, or gates that weren't properly secured?
You'd think they would have better security at a coin shop. I see the bars on the windows but the story just says broken glass which could mean the display cases. So, how did they get in? Was it the roof burglar again?
I wonder if this was the same crew that they never caught form there last heist, where they cut into safes.?
I woulda thunk in a coin shop you would have security cameras.
