'This house fits us like tailored clothing'
PORTLAND, Ore. – How big is the house of your dreams?
For a Portland couple, it’s about the size of a parking space.
Tammy Strobel and Logan Smith's 128 square foot home could probably fit into your bedroom with room to spare.
“We look at it as an adventure,” said Tammy.
Tammy and Logan embraced a national trend toward smaller, simpler living to save resources and money.
Their tiny house sits on a yard that they rent, they do laundry at a nearby house and shower often at the gym or at work.
The couple said their last home, a 400 square foot apartment in Northwest Portland, was too big and didn’t feel right.
Now they still feel like they have plenty of room.
“This house fits us like tailored clothing, in that we designed it to fit our needs. No more, no less,” said Logan.
With less house, less cleaning, fewer things and no mortgage, Tammy and Logan said they have more time to focus on what’s important to them: relationships.
“At first our family and friends thought we were a little on the crazy side,” said Logan. “Now they think we’re at the head of the pack."
I could live there (when I was single).  But shower at the gym or at work? No, that wouldn't work for me.Â
That is the most adorable house ever. Â I have a 777 sq foot apartment that I pay 595 a month for and I think it's a bit too large. Â I mean, I have a living room I never use with a huge entertainment center that I can't even lift up and a TV I haven't watched anything on since it was in our last apartment. Â
Â
However, I want to have a family and though a house like this would have done wonders for us years ago when we first got together, before we accumulated stuff and pets and a rather large fish tank. Â
Â
It's such a good idea to have a home that is exactly tailored to your needs though, instead of buying something extravagant and using only a quarter of the space. Â I would go bonkers in a home that small now though, I need the companionship of a dog and one of my goals is to have a small herd of goats. Â My dream would be to have a small 2 bedroom house on a decent size lot. Â :]
That house would be cheap to heat and so forth. one can also Fit that house with solar panels as well making it perfect for Conserving resources. I applaud the family..How ever we have a 75 lb dog..However, I do like how they used the term, "tailored" meaning built for there needs, meaning if we all did this we wouldn't have the foreclosures we have today.
They use the money they saved to move up to something larger and more appropriate, which is what most smart, conservative Americans did before society became re-infatuated with flaunting the illusion of wealth.
Â
The average American house payment is $1,800 and foreclosures are still everywhere. I applaud this couple for being responsible, practical, conservative and financially intelligent.
yeah and what happens when a little one pops out?
