Truck overturns on I-5 off-ramp, spills pipes

PORTLAND, Ore. – A truck carrying large pipes rolled onto its side, spilling its load on an Interstate 5 off-ramp Tuesday morning.
Police said no one was hurt.
The commercial truck was driving on the I-5 southbound off-ramp to northbound Interstate 205 at around 8:30 a.m. when it overturned. Police said the driver was not injured in the crash and no other vehicles were damaged.
Police cited 35-year-old Kenneth D. Harvey of Springfield, Ore. for failure to drive within a lane.
Must be a union carrier since not mentioned
You silly poindexters, in the transportation industry, we like to keep things simple. Loads of a common commodity are usually referred to in the singular form of plural. I work for the railroad so I would say we have loads of pipe, or several cars of rail. Even though there's obviously more than one of each item, it's referred to collectively. It's the KISS method.

Disclaimer: Spelling and grammar may not be accurate. Misteaks gauranteed.
I had to look at this link to make sure it wasn't meth pipes that were dumped on the road since this is Oregon, the meth capital of the world.
@RalphCramden Most companies would drug test the driver after an accident like this. He may have been impaired.
Â
From the photograph it appears speed or "distracted" driving may have been the cause as the gravel indicates one or more wheels on the shoulder and then a hard left "overcorrection."
 @I812 Â
I was thinking the same thing. And he will get a drug test and I am sure they will look at his cell phone records.
Â
It could have been a mechanical failure but I think the police would have mentioned that upfront had that been the case. A blown tire on a dual would not have done this but a front tire blowout could have been the cause.
 @RalphCramden  @I812 No Citations were issued.. If the cops are on the ball the driver will get a unsecured load...and illegal lane change...Â
 @swimbad  @I812Â
That would do it also.
 @RalphCramden  @I812 Or a load shift.
Oops.
I need my pipes cleaned.
Nope...the plural for pipe is pipes.Â
@washcomom Those in the industry don't say pipes, unless you want to sound like an idiot. You're not an idiot, are you?
 @Riley35  @washcomom Mary Jane's sells glass pipes. I once got a ticket because my pipes were two loud. I can't stand the sound of bagpipes.Â
 @Riley35 No. So why don't you tell the English Professors what the plural of pipe is. Or better yet - tell Oxford. It is correct in both areas, so don't feel like you have the corner on the market.Â
The plural for pipe is pipe.
