Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue lieutenant dies in kite-surfing accident

LINCOLN BEACH, Ore. – An off-duty member of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue died after a kite-surfing accident in Lincoln City on Thursday afternoon, Oregon State Police said.

Lt. Dale Johnson Jr., 49, was a firefighter for 19 years.

He most recently was assigned as a lieutenant to Fire Station 35 in King City.

OSP got a call Thursday around 5 p.m. that a man was being taken to the hospital after his friend found him unconscious in the water at Roads End State Park.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital after rescue efforts by the friend, fire crews and emergency-room staff.
