Two abduction attempts have Eugene schools, police on alert
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Eugene, Ore., police say a 9-year-old girl reported that a strange man approached her and grabbed her arm as she stood at a drinking water fountain at her school.
The girl says she was able to escape and the man ran off. Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin tells The Register-Guard that the girl is "very credible."
The newspaper says the Monday afternoon apparent abduction attempt at Eugene Corridor Elementary School came less than four weeks after another student who attends school at the same north Eugene campus reported a similar incident.
Police do not know whether the cases are related.
Police searched unsuccessfully for the man on Monday. McLaughlin says school officials and police are "on high alert."

How in the hell did he just walk into a School? We are supposed to trust them to keep our kids safe once they step into the building.
@Pointblank I once went into a elementary school looking for the office, but missed the door and kept going down the hall looking for it. A little girl came out of her classroom and asked if she could help me. I told her I was looking for the office. She walked with me back to where the office was. The front exit was less than 10ft away. It scared me then that it was so easy for me to be a stranger roaming the halls and walk with a young student, and get so close to the exit without anyone questioning me.

Made me think, "If it's this easy for me, maybe it was this easy for Kyron."
This scares me to no end! We live one block from my daughter's school and I see kids her age walking home alone all the time. I won't allow her to do that even when she becomes a teenager! This world is just not what it was when I was a kid.Â
@pdxmom America is actually safer now than when you were a kid. Check the statistics if you don't believe me. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2012/0109/US-crime-rate-at-lowest-point-in-decades.-Why-America-is-safer-now
@Riley35 Thanks for the stats I have wondered if things are really worse or it is just that anything any where in the world we can find out about in minutes where 40 years ago it may have taken months if ever reported locally.
Terri?
they need to hire security guards and monitor whoever comes in and out of those schools.... they should do that like ASAP.... It's obviously a crazy individual if they are gonna try that in a school!!
I hope the authorities can quickly apprehend this predator. Hopefully with the eyes of the public being diligent this person can be caught before someone is hurt or killed.
This is so scary, considering what ended up happening with Jessica Ridgeway in Colorado. He had tried twice before getting her
