One man killed, another person injured in Forest Grove crash

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Forest Grove police say one man died and another person was injured when they were hit by an SUV in Forest Grove Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at 7:30 a.m. in front of Joseph Gale Elementary on 18th Avenue near Maple Street.

J.T. Mercado-Nuno, 49, of Hillsboro, died in the crash, according to the Forest Grove Police Department. The injured victim, a 27-year-old man, was a taken to a hospital with injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

The men were unloading equipment from a trailer while working for a landscaping company when they were hit, police said.

Police said they found staff members from nearby Forest Grove Tuality Hospital with the victims when they arrived.

Police said the driver of the SUV is cooperating with the investigation.

Initial reports from Forest Grove Fire were that the crash involved a bicyclist, but they later said the person who died was walking when he was struck.

Wednesday's crash is the second fatal crash in the Forest Grove area this week. On Monday, two Pacific University students died in a crash on Highway 47.
