Two people die in icy crash on Mount Hood

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. – Two people died Friday in a head-on collision on Mount Hood, state police troopers said.

The crashed happened on Highway 35 at milepost 78, about 13 miles north of Mount Hood Meadows ski resort.

Police said Issac Ackerman, 25, of Hood River, lost control of his car on an icy curve and slid into the oncoming lane, where it was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

Ackerman and his passenger, 21-year-old Joseph Cabrera, died in the crash. Police said the two were both using seat belts. They were headed to the mountain to snowboard.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 61-year-old William Halverson, was injured in the crash. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.
