Two rescued from burning apartment building

ALBANY, Ore. -- Firefighters and police rescued two people who were trapped inside a smoke-filled apartment late Saturday night.

No one was hurt, but the smoke damaged four apartments.

At around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, residents of an apartment at 23rd and Hill St. called 9-1-1 to report their single-floor apartment complex was on fire.

Firefighters said that the two callers reported that they were trapped inside their apartment, as flames blocked their bedroom window and thick smoke filled the rest of the apartment to the floor.

Firefighters arrived to find one room of the building on fire and smoke coming from the other windows. They went inside the building and rescued one person, while an Albany police officer rescued the other.

It's unclear what caused the fire.

The apartment residents were given temporary housing.
