Marshals: Raid nets man in bizarre case of kidnapping, beating
FOREST GROVE, Ore. – U.S. Marshals raided a Forest Grove home Tuesday and arrested a man they said was behind a bizarre crime that included kidnapping.
Detectives said the victim in the case was kidnapped, beaten, stripped, and tossed onto a stranger's doorstep.
Investigators said it all started over a woman, Angela Santos, who was arrested last month. Eugene Gilbert was arrested Tuesday at the raided Forest Grove home after an investigation that spanned several months and turned up disturbing details. Both are now in custody at the Washington County Jail.
In addition to Gilbert, investigators arrested Angela Fischer on charges of violating parole and hindering prosecution.
Gilbert has been arrested 52 times in Oregon for everything from assault to aggravated theft. This time he's accused of kidnapping, robbery and assault along with Santos who was arrested in September.
Investigators said Santos' boyfriend was the victim in this case and ended up in a Hillsboro front yard in July after he escaped being pummeled, pistol-whipped, robbed, driven around and beaten some more.
Sandy Van Olden said her next door neighbor found the victim badly injured.
"Said a guy came up, stumbled up and went to the side of his house and sat down. He went over to see what was going on and said the guy was beat up and bloody," said Van Olden.
She said her neighbor called police and investigators confirmed those details. Now with Santos and Gilbert behind bars, homeowners in two different neighborhoods said they feel some relief.
"It is good to know they've been caught," said Van Olden. "You do worry about things like that, you know. But we always keep our doors locked and the neighbors here watch out for each other so that's a good thing."
Investigators said Santos told them several different versions of what happened, including that there simply was no crime committed. KATU News went to the listed address for the victim but no one answered.
One, 50 cent lead round to the forehead. Bang, its over
It was 25 cents not long ago.
@Glenn Pierce It's the uptick in the price of the brass casing.
Any three strikes law refers to convictions, and convictions at a certain level - not just arrests. I concur that this guy doesn't need to see the outside of a prison yard for the rest of his life, but KATU and other outlets are just mucking things up when they report how many times someone has been arrested. It's nit-picking, I know - sorry. I would be curious to see how many convictions this one has.
Mr. Gilbert, this is your 3rd arrest. Next time, we're keeping you for good...
Mr. Gilbert, this is your 29th arrest. Next time, we're keeping you for good...
Mr. Gilbert, this is your 40th arrest. Really, next time, we're keeping you for good...
Mr. Gilbert, this is your 51rst arrest, I can't express enough to you, that next time, we really are keeping you for good. Pinky swear...

Wonder what ever gave him the idea they were all full of it?
@Lips I was thinking the exact same thing. Are you f-ing kidding me??? 52 times? Some people don't care, don't learn and are career criminals with nothing better to do with their time than make life miserable for the rest of us. Why don't they take these guys and put them into marine boot camp for awhile and see if they can be straigtened out....
What happened to three strikes your out?
@swede760 In Oregon, it's 52 strikes and you're out. Or is it 67 strikes?
@Sean D @swede760Â apparently an evolving standard
@Sean D @swede760 It's It dosen't matter what you do your out, on the street again with a slap on the hand
What's it going to take to lock this loser up for good? Â Oh, wait, I know what it will take; his first murder. Â I'll bet that's not too far off. Â So who's it going to be? Â Let's spin the wheel....
Â
I hope this is the time that Eugene can be fully rehabilitated and finish up his PhD in astro physics. He has so much to offer humanity.
@Dirtman HAHAHA!!! My first crack up of the day! Thanks!
Unfit to walk the streets. Never let him out,,, AGAIN!

Arrested that many times and out on the street? Was he let out because he is not a risk? Or let out due to over crowding?
Time to bring the Sheriff from Arizona up, to set up a nice place to detain these individuals. He will have many excuses.
after 52 arrests why was this POS still free. Why is he still breathing
Fronk, you know what 'they' will say: he was beaten as a child, abused by his mom, bullied in school, didn't get enough attention from his underpaid teacher due to overcrowding, didn't get enough to eat at home, disenfranchised by the rest of us, unemployed because of George Bush, couldn't get a home loan from the big mean bankers, couldn't afford college and the rest of the usual pap and BS. The truth is that he alone is responsible for all of his bad decisions and behavior. Regardless of how he was raised.
@last boyscout The only part missing in your comment is... with an arrest record this long, no one will ever hire him. He needs to hurry up and commit his keeper crime, so he can settle into his cell for good.
Looks like he fled on foot and had a fight with a blackberry bush. I knew it must be Bush's fault.
This a$$clown looks to be in his early to mid thirties and he's been arrested 52 times!? Life in prison. And don't start in on liberals, I am one yet I can only put up with so much BS as any of the rest of you. I believe in helping and going easy on the good citizens of our country, not thes POS's.
