Unique bike stolen from North Portland family

PORTLAND, Ore. - A unique bike from The Netherlands was stolen from a family's yard in North Portland on Tuesday and the owners are hoping to get it back.
The Swinehart family said the bike, which is about six feet long and weighs 80 pounds, was locked to a gas meter outside their home.
"We're a one-car family so that's our other form of transportation," said Ben Swinehart. "The kids and I, we take it to the grocery store and we go to the library or take it to the park, to the pool. It's how we get around when mom's at work."
If you see the bike, call police.
That is one heavy bike. My carbon racing bike weighs about 18 pounds.
Â
This one, with the kids and the parent, must weigh over 400 pounds. They must live in a very flat area cause going up hills or trying to break coming down hills is not really and option.
 @RalphCramden Some Mt bike disk brakes would work for going down hill.
Â
On an unrelated note I just got myself a new bicycle......
Â
I never seem to get very far, but I sure make a lot of friends  :)

Watch the garbage and can pickers. This bike/cart would be an ideal asset to the homeless vagrant looking for an easier way to get the empties to the recycle station at the local supermarket.
Ben! I hope they find your bike! I sent the link to Bill to check out. Happy Holidays!
 @Joannev You mean "Merry Christmas"
Take a look at that photo. How the heck does one steer that thing? I have stared at it and still can't see how it steers. Anyone? It is cute as the dickens, that's for sure and seems very functional.
 @whirledworld You can see the steering just about the kids head.. Weird I know.. pretty cool
@whirledworld linkage underneath the yellow Basket.
Hey, have you heard of a lock ? You live in North Portland.. Come on now !
 @dougrpdx Still you think North Portland is the big crime center after all this time? Really? You don't read? Crime is up everywhere. Actually, I feel safer in North Portland than I do in SE or Gresham or Downtown. By the way, I have over 25 out of 32 years living in this area. It had it's bad times in the late 80's but right now...again I feel safer here than several other places. I feel fine in letting my senior citizen father take the Max to Fred Meyer so he can have his exercise and do errands. He feels perfectly safe too but take him into downtown or SE he tenses because he watches the news.
 @Kymberlie2873  @dougrpdx I've lived in Gresham for more than a decade and haven't had but one issue in all that time. Shortly after I moved to Oregon I parked my car at a park and ride in Rockwood and the stereo (a cassette deck) was stolen out of the car. That was before I knew about Rockwood. I feel pretty safe here.
 @Kymberlie2873 My bad, sorry.. I must be blind to the gang violence up there..
 @dougrpdx Hey, have you heard of comprehending? "... was locked to a gas meter outside their home"

@Goodfella @dougrpdx  80 pound bike with a 6 ounce lock
 The flimsy lock in the picture wouldn't slow even the most inept thief.
