Unusual suspects caged after one allegedly bites girl

SALEM, Ore. – A pack of Chihuahuas is now in cages for terrorizing a neighborhood after Marion County Animal Control said they got loose and started going after people, including a 6-year-old girl.
Neighbors called animal control a couple times about the same dogs. And earlier in the same day, animal control said a call came in because the five dogs were chasing after a teenager. Then a second call a few hours later was made after the dogs chased down and bit the 6-year-old girl in Northeast Salem.
Animal control is not sure which one bit the girl, but the bite was bad enough the girl's parents took her to the hospital. She's home now and will be OK.
The dogs' owner surrendered the Chihuahuas and what looks like more of a Chihuahua mix to animal control. Marion county animal control will monitor them in quarantine for 10 days, which is standard procedure after a dog bite.
A veterinarian will decide whether the dogs can be adopted, should go to a rescue facility or should be euthanized.
Dogs are dogs, big or small they all need proper training and to be controlled by a responsible owner.Â
It's odd that it says unusual suspects when small dogs are typically more likely to bite than big dogs. You just don't hear about it as much because they don't do as much damage.
What ever you do don't run into a Taco Bell to escape the pack because that's probably where they came from. Run, run for the border.
What is truly sad is that the bite was preventable. Â Animal control was notified and called before it happened. Â Same thing here in Portland - I called three times to report two Pits running in a Trailer Park full of kids. Â My calls got the following response "We can';t do anything Unless (or Until) there in an "incident". Â Well an 'Incident" did occur and put a woman in the ER room. So a loose pack of dogs (even small dogs) that were chasing people wasn't enough to motivate any officials to action - not until a child was bitten did they haul ass out there? Â Anyone want to volunteer their kid for the biting next time this type of call comes in, 'cause it will. Â And no one will act until "an incident" has occurred...
A pack of these little ankle nippers is scary. Â Maybe the state legislators will vote to give them amnesty and college funds.
Pronounced... Cha Huey Huey. A small dog commonly seen selling Chicklets, and fake silver jewelry at Mexican resort towns.
@Razor1Â Ban dogs with teeth Obama
When dogs pack - they change from the nice house dog to mean dogs. Like mob mentality
People often don't properly socialize their small dogs because they believe they can't really harm other people. But like any other dogs, small dogs need to learn to get along with all kinds of people and other dogs and to never put their teeth on people. I had dobermans that people were less afraid to approach than my current small breed dogs. I always have to assure them that mine are not "armpit piranhas".
Children should always be taught to NOT run from dogs. It is their nature to chase a moving object. One should stand quietly and avoid eye contact with the dog. I hope the little girl recovers quickly and fully.Â
As for the dogs, they should have been booted down the street - that's what would have happened if they came at me. It's nice, for once, to see a dog attack story on these mangy ankle biters because it is a common occurrence, but rarely discussed. Now pits, they make the news every time, yet more people are bitten by small dogs than pits.
These are "kick dogs." Just punt them into the next county. Or, if you are hungry, pick up a copy of the Chinese cookbook "One Thousand and One Ways to Wok Your Dog."
@I812"One Thousand and One Ways to Wok Your Dog."
Hahaha!
They fit in a blender.
treat as you would a pit. No tolerance for biting from a pit, when it should be all dogs. Little or small.Â
@Sarah Carter I agree; if you are going to demonize dogs for agressive behavior, they should all be demonized equally. A 6 yo girl being bit by a crazed chi. is like an adult being bit by a large dog.
Haha, this reminds me of my own childhood. I was maybe 5 years old and was assailed by a pack of weiner dogs. I kicked one of them and it just came back after me with redoubled fury so I ran.
I remember running down the street past an old guy watering his lawn, laughing at me as I ran screaming from this furious pack of yes, weiner dogs.
In retrospect it's pretty darn funny, but I do feel that little girl's pain though I was lucky enough to somehow escape unscathed.
@WhenCowsAttack I out ran weiner dog in 8th grade by zigzagging on and off the curb.
Shoulda squirted them with mustard, or ketchup? LOL
@jpk I had a dog on the attack and a can of whipping cream....Sprayed the dog with the cream, the dang thing no longer attacked me..in would lick me and play lol...the owner was pissed..Animal Control and came got the dog, Owner went to jail. Later the dog got adopted out. Owner received hefty fine, and well..Stayed in jail as he had other issues then dog abuse. Dog won, I won, every one but the original handler was happy.
Assuming that I will always carry a can of whipped cream around, any particular flavor? Or will shaving cream also work? LOL
@WhenCowsAttack Now THAT is funny! Thank you!
Chihuahuas are nippy little dogs. Â They might not seem that way to a grown adult, but to a small child, they might as well be a German shepherd, because the size ratio.
Don't let small dogs fool you. Â I went to the store, where I was parked next to a pick up truck that held a few dachshunds and a great dane. Â I didn't think anything of it, until I came back out of the store. Â There were a couple police cars parked out in the lot, pulling out the dane, as it was severely bitten by the dogs and was covered in blood.
@My2Cents and I have a video of a small vicious dog...Not sure where it is at in the case.. so I can not post the video..I wasn't afraid of it, I just wanted to document the dog that was terrorizing the neighborhood..I'll post the vid once I know for sure it isn't going to court. Who knows, Maybe KATU will want a story. This was 2 months ago. should be getting a summons any time.
Always keep your eyes on the little doggies. They don't attack from the front. These little "ankle biters" circle around behind you and nip from what they consider an advantage. Turn with them and keep them in front of you.
obamas chiuwahwah chowder recipee is to die for. go mooshell!
Give them dog biscuits as suggested, or face them and they may back down. Pet owners need to take care of their pets at all times. Make sure they are in a secure enclosure, or well fenced yard. Better to pay a little extra to make sure they are contained...than to face fines, lawsuits or doctor bills.
Cyclone fencing works great for small yippy - yappy dogs.
@Just Lookin "Give them dog biscuits as suggested, or face them and they may back down".or make sure you have tortillas and hot sauce!
Insted of Brown Pride Chicanas they are the Brown Pride Chihuahuas. Look out Salem, a new rival gang has formed.
Â
Viscous packs of wild, deadly chihuahuas??  ROFL I'm sorry.. I know the little buggers can be ornery but seriously? They're like 4 pounds soaking wet.  The thought of this makes me laugh..Â
Carry dog biscuits, you'd be surprised how many viscous, biting dogs become your fast friend.. If those don't work carry a squirt bottle full of water & let 'em have it in the face..
Euthanizing those poor little guys because their OWNERS were not responsible just doesn't seem fair. Â
@cwpholder one super soaker would have taken them all out. No dog biscuit for you, bad dog.
I wonder if you need a cwp for a super soaker if you intend to carry it for that reason?
I'm pretty sure there are more people bit by small dogs vs big dogs. Small dogs just don't have enough power to inflict a lot of damage like a bigger dog. But they draw blood more often for sure. Small dogs are waaaaaay more aggressive.
@Josh Burk Make a bet, have you seen what they can do to a kid?
@Josh Burk Small dogs are more easily threatened due to their inability to defend themselves. Plus, the same inbreeding that makes large dogs defective and aggressive, does the same thing to small ones. That said. I'd rather go up against a pack of angry dachshunds then one ticked off Pit Bull!
@Scotty9 @Josh Burk That's why you need to be packing some heat, so you can take care of that pit bull.
Very surprised they weren't identified as small "Pit Bulls"
@al_02Â Or Pit Bull snacks
Mexican dogs form gang in salem. Arf Arf Arf- must be anchor dogs
Are they legally here?
That's so bizarre. They really do see a doberman when they look in the mirror the little freaks.
Why is in unusual? Chihuahua's can be mean little dogs.
