Van with five people inside flips over in Beaverton

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Several people suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon as an SUV filled with five people -- including a two-year-old child -- crashed and flipped up onto a Beaverton sidewalk.
The crash, which involved another vehicle, happened just before 1:45 p.m., police said, on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway in the westbound lane at the northbound egress to Highway 217.
When police arrived, they learned that there were five people inside the SUV, including the two-year-old. The SUV was on its top on the sidewalk with three people still inside.
Several of the people were able to get out of the vehicle before members of the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue extricated the remaining occupants from the SUV.
Officials said the injuries appear to be minor and six people in all were taken to Providence St. Vincent Hospital, OHSU and Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center.
"We train for crashes like this often," said TVF&R Public Information Officer Brian Barker. "Fortunately, wrecks involving this many patients are rare, but we're trained and ready to bring the necessary resources to bear when these incidents do happen."
This crash is currently under investigation and the cause is unknown.
Expect delays in the area through the afternoon.
Actually, going through this intersection multiple times per week, the accidents I see are when the furthest left lane (Left turn only) goes straight forward onto 217, while the 2nd most left lane is for going forward or left turn (the lane I'm in, because I make a right turn just past the overpass) and I have seen, more times than I can count, that person in the far left going straight, and if the person in my usual lane is making a left turn, well...most of the time accidents are avoided at the last minute with much gnashing of teeth and horn blowing.  Other times, this happens.
Looks like the mini van was east bound on BH hwy or turning left towards canyon when the car heading north from the off ramp hit the passenger side of the van ..... wonder which one ran a red

@HarryJuku Umm, I have two adults, one teenager, and two dogs in my Lolvo all the time.  Look for the Zombie Family stickers on the back, and yes, it does say "Lolvo" on the car (fun with a dremel, paint, and epoxy!).
Â
An SUV? Â They usually hold 7-9 people or so. Â Mentioning 5 people in an SUV is a bit like noting that there were *gasp*, 2 people in that sedan!
@HarryJuku It was a SUV -- they can carry five people easily. Heck, I can easily fit 5 people in my Suburu Outback. I don't know why you're so surprised.
Â
@HarryJuku Um my fiancé and I who have three daughters so two adults plus three daughters equals five people in our minivan. Just think if the other three still lived at home that would equal six......oh my! No we are not Mormon, Catholic, or non citizen we just enjoy certain activities. ;o)
@HarryJuku Uhh, two parents with their three kids?? Or perhaps they should make one hold on to the back riding a skateboard?
@HarryJuku Perhaps a family of five?!
"Injuries appear to be minor", thank God.
Must have been cookin' to flip that thing!
@techguy Nope.  But the person to the left of them trying to go straight from a left turn lane, could *easily* hit a top-heavy vehicle (read: SUV) broadside as it was turning, rolling it right into that pole.  Would also explain that cars fuqed up front-end on their right side.  Really makes it look like they were going straight from the turn lane...
I avoid Hwy 217 at all times...
@August100 Yep. A grid-locked nightmare most of the time.
