Vanc. man dies when pickup veers off I-5, rolls down embankment
LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A man was killed early Thursday when his pickup veered off Interstate 5, slammed into a signpost and rolled several times down an embankment in Seattle, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The 42-year-old man was from Vancouver, investigators said.
State troopers responded to the scene, on southbound I-5 at the Interstate 405 exit ramp, at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a serious accident.
The driver was found dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
A preliminary investigation found that the man was driving south on I-5 in a red 2002 Ford Ranger pickup when he drifted off the roadway to the right and onto the grass shoulder of the off-ramp to southbound I-405.
The pickup slammed into a signpost, then rolled several times down an embankment before landing in the ditch.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. There were no passengers in the pickup and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Contrary to this report, he was wearing his seat belt. He was living in Marysville, WA not Vancouver. Please don't be an idiot and comment on things you don't know anything about. His friends and family don't appreciate you people who hide behind your computer screens jumping to conclusions and calling him names. The news doesn't always get it right the first time. How about taking the time to respect the deceased and their family in this time of loss.
So very sad.Â
Â
Obviously government has to step in and mandate more guard rails to protect us from ourselves.
@jpk nope, they already mandate that you wear a seatbelt, which probably would have saved his life. Therefore, the govt has already done so. He chose not to utilize that feature and payed the price for it.
They can mandate as much as they want, but from the very top on down, people are choosing which laws they want to comply with. And, the government is know for its redundancy, therefore, gotta have more guardrails. LOL
Playing the "I wonder if he had is seatbelt on" game before reading, I expected that. Partially ejected in a rollover must be nasty. I don't get it, I feel naked if I drive without it on (with a touch of  that "going commando" feeling of liberation).

@Dr. Rawdog Redneck???  Really?  I'm not sure I see the connection between a seat belt and a redneck. Â
Nothing good happens after midnight. Sadly - this is one of those cases.Â

@Dr. Rawdog Glad you have a great time. This guy didn't.Â
"The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle."
Â
Well there you go. Some things in life are so predictable.
Gotta love the drinkers who drive pick up trucks and don't use seat belts. Â Just saved another innocent driver.
@Leinenkugle's You missed the last part of the article." It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash." You may be right but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
