Vandals torch Post Office mailbox in small Oregon town

GASTON, Ore. -- Authorities say an arsonist has set fire to the mailbox in front of the post office at Gaston in Washington County.
Many pieces of outgoing mail deposited over the weekend have been damaged by gasoline and water.
The Gaston Rural Fire Department says the fire started between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, and smoke was coming from the mailbox when firefighters arrived to put it out.
The department says a gasoline canister with a lit wick was found inside the mailbox.
The mailbox is the only one in the Gaston postal area. The nearest mailboxes are in Yamhill and Forest Grove.
The fire department says the investigation will be handled by the Washington County sheriff's office and the U.S. Postal Service.
Gaston is located west of Portland on Highway 47.

@HarryJuku Better yet, we should ban mailboxes. They're dangerous, they cost way too much money to keep in service, and they only benefit an entitled few.
@HarryJuku I think someone should ban you for being annoying and spamming every story with this.
Insensitive, inconsiderate, ignoble, idiotic, imbecilic Grinch invites a repayment in kind for his infamy!
Federal offense? Some-one could do some very hard time, just for being stupid.
We need common sense gasoline canister regulation! Why does anyone need more than 10ml? Even that's too much but that's what's called compromise! Bigger canisters are only for killing and mass destruction! /sarc

Ok in all seriousness this really hacks me off. I can only imagine how many last minute family Christmas letters were lost in that fire, and all for what. I look forward to them finding and severely punishing the inconsiderate jerk who did this.
I would think that if whoever did this is looking at a 20 year mini.....That's a lot of time. Maybe we'll have flying cars by then?
Arson it a very serious charge. Whoever did this will get to see their live change dramatically.
