VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington State Patrol troopers searched unsuccessfully Thursday for a wanted man after his father told them he was at an Interstate 5 rest area north of Vancouver with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The father of 36-year-old Derral Kenneth Mosby called WSP Thursday afternoon and told troopers his son had just called him and told him he was shot in the leg and was at the southbound Gee Creek rest area on Interstate 5, which is just south of Ridgefield, Wash., said Trooper William Finn.

Troopers and Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded to the rest area at around 3:30 p.m. to search for Mosby but couldn’t find him. They reopened the rest area but then closed it again just after 4 p.m., saying they feared the suspect was still in the area.

Police said they found a car at the rest stop that Mosby had borrowed. Troopers impounded it and said they didn't see any evidence inside the car that anyone had been injured.

Law enforcement officers arrived at the rest area wearing body armor and carrying shotguns and AR-15-style rifles. They also added an airplane to fly over the area.

After hours of searching the area around the rest area, police said they couldn't find Mosby.

Authorities also searched for Mosby at a property near Ridgefield, Wash. overnight, but did not find him.

Mosby, from Mossy Rock, Wash., is wanted for several felony warrants on robbery and drug possession, Finn said. He’s 6 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 220 pounds and has blue eyes and brown hair.

Mosby’s is one of Washington’s Most Wanted.

Mosby is considered armed and dangerous, Finn said and anyone who sees him should call 911.
