Wash. PTA opposes NRA's call for armed school guards
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - The Washington State PTA says it opposes the National Rifle Association's proposal for having armed police in every school.
The gun-rights organization issued the call at a press conference Friday, breaking its silence on last week's shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school.
PTA executive director Bill Williams says children need to feel safe to do well at school, and having armed guards would probably make them feel less safe.
He says it would also be a prohibitive drain on a school district's or police department's resources, leading to increased class sizes or cuts in other services - and it probably wouldn't work.
Williams noted the slayings of four armed police officers in a Lakewood, Wash., coffee shop in 2009 in pointing out that being armed doesn't prevent violence. He says, "The more people are armed, the more likely there are going to be gun deaths."
When I was younger, I never once saw a police officer and felt any sort of fear. This PTA is clearly chock-full of Liberals who would rather everyone play dress-up or "pin-the-pen1s-on-the-tranny" than consider actual options. They probably think gun-control works, or something equally as insane.Â

@HarryJuku Citing DailyKOS is about as credible as citing barackobama.com
Many schools already have a local police officer assigned to them. Curious what the PTA has to say about that? I will also be curious how the PTA will justify their stand should a mentally disturbed killer massacre another classroom full of babies. Â
Just arm everyone and we will revert back to the wild west. To much foam in your latte? Shoot em! That guy is looking at me funny. Shoot em! Look at the price of gas! Shoot em! YEEEE HAWWWW Gotta fight guns with more guns! Maybe toddlers should pack too, keep it hidden in the baby carriage just in case..
@CorporateCowMoo Same ole same ole from knee-jerk touchy feely girlymen. Same thing has been said as state after state enact conceal carry laws. Strangely, the crime rates go down.
Lets look at the facts, clearly the no guns allowed on any school grounds or campuses were only written documents and not posted in plane sight. If we post more signs saying that guns are not allowed then and only then will we be able to stop gun violence.

Liberal Sheeple
Looks like kids are smarter than the PTA and the Democrats:

@Unknown Thanks for the link.  Those are some sharp kids.  And confirmed what I was thinking - maybe it would make the kids feel better to have guards around them.
In those parts of Arizona where open-carry is legal, folks are very polite and the crime rate is very low. The open
display of a weapon, especially by law enforcement, would definetely be a deterent to a most mass-shooters, because they are really cowards at heart (as well as insane). As such, I would support openly-armed guards at public schools.
The D.A.R.E officer in our elementary school carried a gun. I don't think that made any of us feel unsafe. Do you see any kids cowering in fear when they see a police officer walking down the streets?
Â
When these shootings happen, we send police officers. Doesn't it make sense to already have a police officer there?
You have a reponsibility to protect the children. Doing nothing and pretending they are not in harms way certainly will not protect them. If the killer can't find a gun and he is driven to kill he will find another way.  The person with the gun in the school to protect the children does not have to wear an uniform or show a gun.Don't live in la-la land and make it where people have to try and protect themsleves by saying "Please don't shoot" and believe they won't. Times are different deal with it.
Well, can't fix stupid.
Â
Any injuries or fatalities to children in schools are now 100% on the PTA.

@HarryJuku The future I seen in a dream for the US is your night mare.
If I were to write here at what I have seen in full vivd color from my dreams would give any sane person nightmares.
I have seen what could happen in a dream.. I am hoping it remains a dream..Because if were fool hearted enough to go with gun control then my dream has a strong possibility of coming true..I have smelled Human flesh burning, I have felt the heat of the fires and I have witnessed the unspeakable atrocities that have taken place.. and If I were to indeed write it here..KATU would remove the content.. and they themselves would have night mares.
Â
So in this comment it s not directed to you but to all.. All I can say is we do not want gun control, it will unravel any things..Things more horrific then what has occurred..
I have no malice towards any man save for the ones that seek to do harm to those weaker and less fortunate.
But if it comes to using a gun to protect life and liberty, and all though I would regret taking a human life, I would do so.
Â
Yes I hold a human life as being sacred. But when that human becomes vial and filled with evil and hate to which there is no means to there end, then its time to relive humanity of the burden there of .
Â
But if it also came to it, I would place myself between the gun and some one else. I am right with my maker. If the guy shoots he shoots, I have no fear of death.
Â
@HarryJuku You really do need help lol..You really do need help.. and I thought I was bad with Einstein at least I seceded in being wrong lol..But you.. oh my.. You really need help.
@HarryJuku You are delusional, seek help.
They can oppose it all they want, but if it comes to protecting our schools and our selves, I am all for the armed guards, face it were in a time unprecedented . These acts of violence that happen are happening more, not because an AR 15 killed some one, but because some one had to pull the trigger, You know I have something to say to you that oppese guns .
It is this:
You are so hell bent on taking soemthing away from people that gives them the God Given right to protect them selves, there familly and there loved ones and you jsut want to take it away, guns aren't the problem, it is people in sick the head, Sick in there hearts and sick in there souls that do this kind of thing.
Â
All you do by banning guns is make it easier for crimes to happen. Just Ask the Australians.
And further of all you need to educate you self on the constitution of the United States.
You can ban all the guns you want. But some one will still find a way to do mass killings. You are foolish to think of you can stop it.
Â
Iam probably preaching to the choir, but all you wanting to ban hand guns are nuts. How in Hell can you think that a freaking object that has to have force exerted on it to operate be at fault?
Â
Oh but in your minds its the gun, its the gun.. Please that thinking is flawed seriously..
All you will do by taking guns away is cause a rise in crime.. Hell You there in Portland Oregon, How many robberies have you had? How many stabbings? You think fewer guns is going to help.. Yeah keep thinking that..and when some one sticks a knife in you or points a gun in your direction and says your dead . What you going to do, Pull out your cell phone and say wait a minute, I want to call 911 first...NO they is going to shoot you dead.
Then there will be one less anti gun person.
Look We need to use Common Sense I agree on that, but you start stepping on the constitution and you going to have a lot of angry people.
Our ancestors left Europe because of Oppression and wanted a better lives Now you want to make this country just like Brittan? That disgusts me.

"Williams noted the slayings of four armed police officers in a Lakewood, Wash., coffee shop in 2009 in pointing out that being armed doesn't prevent violence. He says, "The more people are armed, the more likely there are going to be gun deaths."Â RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT, this is the reason why I have no faith in people any more. If guns arent needed, then why call the cops to show up when someones shooting up a school? Because the ONLY way of stopping a bad guy with a gun is by having a Good guy show up with a gun. People need to get over this "fear" of guns. The "fear" is caused by the lack of understanding of what it is and what it does. Its a machine, just like a car. Education is what these kids need, sure there will be a lot of soccer moms and liberals complaining about guns in schools. However, we are in an age to make a change. Stop relying on the locked particle wood doors and hiding under particle wood desks hoping that the cops get there quick. Its time to keep armed professionals onsite to deal with the evil people. Sure Ill get a lot of flack for saying it, but too bad.Â
They can oppose it all they want - but it's exact what is making parents - and students - feel safe in schools this week.
Seems to me that the children would feel safer knowing that they are not sitting ducks without defense. I think the teachers should be allowed to have CCW permits.... It should be broadcasted across the nation that all schools will be allowing the administrators and teachers to be armed as a defense against this type of act... The children would indeed be safer, if the gunmen could be neutralized before taking out so many.... the "gun free" zones are not working... they are creating the problem. The evil, sick minded will always find a way to get guns... even if they are banned... Then it will get even worse. Just my opinion...
@Brenda Morris
Nice comment...Our local schools have had police for years it's called a Resource Officer ! The talk about gun control only does one thing ...SELL MORE GUNS AND AMMO. Just bought a new CHL model which is now sold out with a 6 to 8 month wait ....so Obama single handily sold more guns in a week .....that  we could get off the street in years...

Â
Thanx for your concern for my mental health . The state of Oregon seems to think I fine, when I got my gun on Wed, was number 240321 in our great state so far this year might hit 300 thou...
Liberals will keep bending over forever. Not everyone believes in people like they do! They will never ever understand that "peaceful" resolutions just don't ever work! Sure glad I don't have any kids in school any more!
@jpk the mreo they controll the guns, the more people will become a "Sovereign Citizen"
Funny how they oppose this yet many school in Washington have just that. Prairie High School that I went to since 98-2002 when I was there had a Clark County Sheriff Officer assigned to our school and was there a lot... and.. oh wait for it.. he was armed! Funny cause nothing extreme ever went down there except a fight or two.. or a drug bust or two. Other then that... mellow safe place to be.Â
Until this country quits living in the past, things will continue to get worse. Â We can't roll back the clock to a much safer time, such as the 1950's through the 1970's, so we better admit this isn't a friendly world anymore. Â As far as the costs of armed guards, what would be wrong with using the National Guard? Â That would be a much better use of their services than using them in Afghanistan where they are barely accomplishing little if anything. Â I can understand the anti-gun dumbos. Â They don't like living in a free country so let's end it by surrendering the only thing that has kept us free for over two hundred years. Â OUR GUNS! Â If you don't like that idea, get out of this country and stay out. Â Try North Korea. Â It will be more to your liking. Â Â

@HarryJuku How many times have you posted that saying this evening that shows your ignorance??
@boned  @HarryJuku I lost count boned, but I sent him a nice lil video..Maybe he is a criminal in hopes that guns are bad so he can go and break the law?
 @HarryJukuÂ
Like more gun free zones. Now that's insanity. It hasn't worked in the past and it won't work in the future because we have been doing that for decades.
Â
Time to think different.

 @HarryJukuÂ
And so are you once the economy fails.
Did they really cite a convicted felon, who was sentenced to 108yrs in jail, as their example of why guns are bad? Don't they know that the law says that Maurice Clemmons couldn't have a gun?
Most schools already have security guards. To give them a gun would be better. They do make rubber bullets that do not kill people but have a similiar effect a bullet would.  It would not bother me one bit to send my child to a school where someone is able to defend them in case a nutjob decides to go crazy. I think that the PTA is crazy for not thinking the same.

@Fed up Fed  Until then, it IS a personal right.  Highest court in the land has said so.
@Unknown  @Fed up Fed Treasonous talk.....
 @Fed up Fed
"Second, unless you're a member of the National Guard, the 2d Amendment doesn't apply to you;"
SCOTUS says differently:Â http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia_v._Heller
@Fed up Fed Maybe you should check the Google search I linked. I never said it wouldn't penetrate sheetrock, I said its trajectory would be fouled by hitting the drywall. Like I said, you should do some research before you post BS. You should never post anything again, nor should you ever speak in public or private. In fact, you should renounce your citizenship and move to Chavez's Venezuela where you belong.
@Fed up Fed You should probably do some research on ballistics behavior of certain cartridges before you spout inaccuracies. The 5.56mmx45/.223 cartridge is IDEAL for home defense. It is a low mass bullet being fired at high velocity. The bullet yaws and fragments after hitting its target. This means that it doesn't sail through your house and several others. The bullet's trajectory is so fouled by the drywall it doesn't retain much lethal, or even injuring, velocity. You can look up .223 and drywall on the Box o'Truth (Google Search that) for tests proving this. 00 (Double Aught) Buckshot out of a shotgun and 9mm out of a pistol actually penetrate more wall than a .223 does.
@randomdude  @boned  @Fed up Fed speaking of which.. My brother has shown my a nice gun that I didn't even know existed in the civil war era.. It was a rare one. it didn't use a cap..it used a round. Still has a hell of a kick. but still considered a "black powder" ..
@randomdude  @boned  @Fed up Fed True.. Plus they can't sue you if there dead.
@lee986321  @boned  @Fed up Fed Double ott buckshot works.
@boned  @Fed up Fed Shot gun with lord knows what for shot..Shome have a ecret recipe.. Some use salt, some use ..Nails all though I Shutter to think at what that would do to the rifling. some use..glass. and then some use a combination of anything and everything.
@Fed up Fed You are 'assuming' that folks defend their homes with an assault rifle when it fact it usually a shotgun, or a pistol of some kind. My long guns are locked-up and I defend my home with two short-barreled pistols having been on a pistol team for years and an expert shot. No, I do not carry a weapon at present, but will start after 1/01/2013 when 25,000 Oregonians lose their unemployment and MCSO sets a record for releasing skel's to make more room for the worst-of-worse. Do you not read the local news??
Fed up Fed.  randomdude.  HarryJuku.  NotAChance. "Finally, please do realize that even if you can't see it, people like me really do have the best interests of America and our communities at heart." Bull. "I'm not "against guns." I own several and know hot to use them." Then you are a hypocrite of the worst kind. As long as you have them, right? "there's no right nor reason to having an assault weapon." You mean semi-automatic? You can't buy an "assault" weapon, those are 3 round burst or full auto. Yes, I should be able to own a semi automatic rifle. Why shouldn't I, because it is a big scawy gun? Awww too bad.
"I'm a Veteran, a gun owner, and deeply concerned about crazy and irresponsible people getting their hands on military-grade weaponry. " Again, nobody can get there hands on military grade weaponry. If you are a veteran, you would know this. I can't go down and buy a 240 Bravo, now can I? "I also want my kids to grow up feeling safe." As do I, that is why there should be armed guards, or well trained individuals in "gun free" zones that these crazies love to shoot up. Â
"Second, unless you're a member of the National Guard, the 2d Amendment doesn't apply to you." Bull. The second is not open to interpretation. In 2008 and 2010, the Supreme Court issued two landmark decisions concerning the Second Amendment. In District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm,UNCONNECTED to service in a militia. Your agenda is showing.
@HarryJuku  @NotAChance What, are you Harry's little buddy now? If you are against guns, then you most definitely are in disagreement with the constitution. Harry has shown nothing but disdain for guns, hence the anti-constitution comment. He assumed that anyone who likes guns was a pro Romney republican by saying " You probably also didn't think Romney could lose the Presidential election? (lawl)". Not everyone who believes in personal freedom and self protection is a republican. I most certainly, am not a republican, or a democrat. This country has gone down the crapper due to straying too far from the constitution.
@HarryJuku  @NotAChance Not everyone that is pro constitution is a Republican. Surprise, surprise. You are like a little ankle biting dog that just keeps yapping and yapping while everyone wishes it would just shut the hell up.
@ MarkKpic Having an Officer with a gun in a holster would mean that he could pull that gun and shoot a shooter...that is pretty clear. By the time the first responders arrive the victims are already dead. Criminals love Gun Free Zones. I was talking to a school official today who had 3 weeks ago been to a school security training and he said the only thing to do is have certain employees carry concealed. I sure would rather have someone with a gun protecting my child than that poor principle who tried to stop the shooter unarmed.

@Fed up Fed  @minniemouse Whether he cared if it was a gun free zone or not...that principle could have had a chance if she could have fired back. Most anti gun folks don't even know how to use a weapon safely and treat it with respect...that is why they are so afraid of them. Ok forget the criminals love gun free zones....madmen are cowards and might retreat if they are being fired upon. If a madman is totally intent on destroying he will build a bomb. I would rather have my child protected by the Police or Nati'l guard...we could do that for the price of one of Michelle Obama's vacations.
Â
@Fed up Fed  @minniemouse How many mass shootings by crazy people have happened at a police precinct? None? Really? Wonder why?
@HarryJuku Way to miss the point completely! I, however, don't need to ask if you are high.
@Fed up Fed  @pdx10  @minniemouse Fed up Fed...are you drunk?

HarryJoke Compared to what? Your version of the real world??
Fed up Fed  My grandchildren are now in fear thanks to the recent school shooting and the media. Our school has a resource officer and he doesn't put them in fear at all...Your statement doesn't make sense.
You and Fed have fun back-slapping each other all evening.
Â
Bye bye...
@HarryJuku  @Fed up Fed  @minniemouse Ask the Israelis, they would beg to differ. But I also realize nothing could alter your mindset.
