Wash. taps Massachusetts firm for pot consultant contract

SEATTLE (AP) - Washington state has tentatively chosen a Massachusetts-based firm led by a University of California, Los Angeles, professor to be its official marijuana consultant.
Botec Analysis Corp. is based in Cambridge, Mass., and has evaluated government programs and provided consulting relating to drug abuse, crime and public health. If the award of the contract is finalized, Botec will advise Washington state officials as they develop rules for the state's new industry in legal, taxed marijuana.
The Washington State Liquor Control Board scheduled an announcement on the award of the contract for Tuesday morning, but it sent an email to losing bidders Monday alerting them to the winner. A copy of the email was provided to The Associated Press.
Botec is headed by Mark Kleiman, a professor of public policy at UCLA.
Stupid! Let the people who have already done this do it again. The Medical Patients and Providers have already built a system from the ground up with out help and have done a good job with very little B S. You could put many who are not able to get work because of their disability to work being directly productive for the State but no it is better to spend Taxpayer money to some out of State firm that has no interest in Washington.
And WA couldn't find a WA organization that knows somethng about pot? Nothng like outsourcing to NOT help our state.
pot brownie tiiiime

That just sounds stupid: bureaucrats hire another bureaucrat to do the job that other bureaucrats are incompetent to undertake. Â
There is nobody better to prove that a sure thing can fail. Â
From romneys former state
There will be a lot of potheads out there who thought they got the job, Â because in their stupor, a little bird told them so. Â Just who is going to pay this consultant? Â It won't come from taxing pot because the potheads aren't going to pay taxes on something now that they haven't in the past. Â They have been growing it illegally and that won't change. Â Just watch. Â The taxpayers will end up paying for this joke. Â Besides, aren't they putting the cart before the horse? Â Last I heard, the Feds said it was illegal, and they are running the show.
@Shadow If you do not like the Law Passed by the People of Washington then don't go there, that simple. Same can be said to the Feds.

feral, i like you the more i read your BS
There will be a lot of disappointed pot users who applied but didn't get the job. They thought because they can grow a weed and smoke a joint they are somehow experts in the pot industry.
@RalphCramden Â
So you think that this egg-head professor is an expert in the industry....maybe because he wrote a couple of research papers funded by the DEA?
 Get serious...the experts in the industry are the ones that have made millions growing, harvesting, and selling pot while the US Government tries to knock them down. Those guys will continue to prosper because they have zero competition....they have already overcome bureaucrats.Â
@Icarus
Wow. You got all that out of my post which was only 2 sentences long. Impressive.
Did you have an active imagination when you were a kid?
so the state will spend a few million of their pot income to an out of state firm to monitor it ... Stupid is as Stuid does
