BETHANY, Ore. -- A man charged with sexually abusing children is in the Washington County Jail, and detectives want to know if there may be more victims.

Investigators say 39-year-old Johnathan Richard Black from Bethany would lure children to his house and then abuse them. At least five boys have come forward with accusations.

Black was accused of abusing a boy in September of 2013. That began a several month-long investigation, in which Washington County deputies and child abuse detectives interviewed a large number of people and collected evidence.

A grand jury indicted Black at the end of last month, and he turned himself in on Sunday.

Chris Neff says he's been close friends with John Black for the past eight years. So close, what has happened now nearly brings him to tears.

“He is an incredible husband,” says Chris Neff. “Dedicated father, an incredible dedicated father.”  Neff adds, “We'd talk about what the best part of our day was. And I just...I...you know....he doesn't have a best part of his day right now.”

Neff went to Black's home Tuesday night, the same home where authorities say the alleged abuse took place, to help support John Black's wife and children. It's the same home where authorities say the alleged abuse took place.

“I'm very confident in our justice system,” says Neff. “I just hope that the public realizes this is not the type of man who does something like this.”

Washington County Sheriff’s public information officer Sergeant Bob Ray says the charges may not end with the current five confirmed victims.

“We're even interviewing additional possible victims,” Ray said. “And detectives were out, they're very busy with this case, and these ones are in addition to the ones he's already been indicted on.”

Chris Neff says drug screening at that job alone should cast doubt on the drug allegations saying, "He didn't do this, he's gonna stand and he's gonna fight and he's gonna clear his name.”

OHSU confirmed Black works at the hospital as an emergency transport coordinator and that he has no direct contact with patients.

He’s being held on $1,745,000 bail on charges of Sex Abuse I, Sex Abuse II, Sex Abuse III, Sodomy I, Sodomy III, Luring a Minor I, Using a Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct, and numerous drug related crimes.

Detectives are seeking the public's help finding more potential victims. If  you have any information, please call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at (503) 846-2500.
