FOREST GROVE, Ore. – A new burn ban is in effect in Washington County.

Firefighters on Sunday put up signs to spread the word about new restrictions in the Forest Grove, Astoria and Tillamook fire districts. Those restrictions include no smoking, no chainsaw use during the day and no open flames unless you’re in a designated spot.

A burn ban is also in effect in the area covered by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.

“In Northwest Oregon, all our fires, 99 percent of them are human caused,” said Oregon Forestry Fire Supervisor Kevin Geary. “We have very little lightning in Northwest Oregon. So it could be anything. Somebody is welding on a piece of equipment and some sparks get in the grass and fire takes off."
