Why did the bobcat come to the Wash. dog park?

REDMOND, Wash. - An apparent bobcat caught visitors by surprise as they came to the off-leash dog area of Redmond's Marymoor Park on Saturday.
The wild cat, who was lounging in the branches of a tree, looked down sleepily and unconcerned at the dogs as they ran and cavorted about 20 feet beneath him.
The dogs, meanwhile, seemed totally oblivious to the bobcat's presence.
But several human visitors noticed the tawny cat.
"It's beautiful, and it's kind of fun to watch at a dog park," said Laura Teague.
Gail Hale of Redmond said she has been coming to the park for nearly 19 years and had never seen anything like it.
"We've seen the deer, I've heard the coyotes - it's just mortifying, when you come late at night and you hear the coyotes crying," she said.
She said she figures the wild cat can take care of itself.
"He's happy, but he's not going to get down any time soon," she said. "Poor baby, he's going to be stuck up there. He'll get down at nighttime."
Oh come on that is an easy one, She wanted dog for dinner.
Expression on the cat's face makes it appear he was contemplating his selection from the dog cafeteria line.
He was looking for lunch, I'd guess!
I would of liked to poke a stick at the kitty
@Bert How did that work with your mom??
"We've seen the deer, I've heard the coyotes - it's just mortifying" ban coyotes. Geez lady, it is wildlife get use to it.
To eat.
Cuz he wanted to invite his new friends out for dinner?
Yep, that is a Lynx Rufus. Easy to mistake them for overgrown feral cats (and vice versa). They hide in plain sight, right under our noses. One got my sister's chickens in Tualatin; I saw another cross Cornell Road a few years ago. Apparently, they adapt very well to living near humans. This one looks like he's wondering when the monkeys and the dogs will go back to their caves.
The bobcat last year here in Portland turned out to be a cat.Â
@my2cents Maybe his name was Bob?
Cat TV... That's what all the commotion on the ground is to the bobcat.
It's gorgeous! I love their faces..Â
I hope everyone will just stay calm & let it slink back to wherever it came from, under cover of darkness. I'm happy to NOT read that "animal control shot it with a dart and is attempting to relocate, blah blah.." It's just curious and will most likely avoid the park after seeing all the activity.Â
It's waiting for dogs to go by unsuspectingly, so it can paw at their tails, just like my kitty cat does.
Bobcats need high-quality entertainment as much as the next cat!Â
As for the quote above: ". . . he's going to be stuck up there. He'll get down at nighttime." He found a comfortable spot to sleep the day away! Not even wanting to come down until after dark. City folk are so humorous!
What a great face on that beautiful animal!
Could of used the bobcat to save that big tree in No Po. A real tree hugger
Update:Â A word in from Bobcat;
"I am not amused"
Well the tree the 'bob cat' is resting on is some kind of wild cherry tree that has bark that goes around the tree and not up and down like most trees.
However the Bob cat seems to look domestic with a striking resemblance to 'Rufus' my daughters cat here on the Oregon coast.
@yaquina  Ain't nothin' domestic about *that* cat! Don't believe it? Dare ya to scratch his ears!
Hmm , I would be less concerned in seeing the bobcat, More concerned about what prey led him to be there..
@lee986321  He just wanted to be left alone! Bobcats, like most wild cats, are nocturnal hunters and sleep the days away.
@lee986321Â Rabbits, and mice... yeah let's be really concerned about those.
That cat is looking at the dogs and saying "boys, this is really what it's like to be free. Â Eat your hearts out"
@Shadow  There is that . . . , and then there's reality. If that cat could talk he'd be yelling, "Shut yer yaps and let me SLEEP!"
my fave part of the story you ask?  the ladys' name who has been going to the park for 19 years. Gail Hale.  Her parents must of had a sense of humor. And bfore you say, "that could be her married name". STOP! any female that has gone to the same dog off leash park for 19 years has never been married.  FACT. thoughts and prayers.
I feel like canine tonight
Guard cat!!!  Here kitty, kitty, kitty.
He's up there going here puppy puppy, come here puppy.
Maybe he was hungry? Or because he wanted to integrate it? Go Bob!
That is not a bobcat. It is a domestic cat that may or not be wild at this point.
@RalphCramden You think he's confusing, check out the Scottish Wild Cat. I never knew about them until I went climbing in the Cairngorms and saw one. I thought it was a well-fed tabby, but my CSM corrected me. After that, I noticed them every once in a while, especially in the highlands.Â
@RalphCramden ~  Hard to tell without seeing the rest of him... the face could be a bobcat... whatever he is anyway, he's really beautiful...
Lunch perhaps?
What a gorgeous cat..! Â I love bobcats... they look so much like domestic cats... This bobcat looks pretty content...just checkin' out the scenery below... Â He'll come down when everybody leaves and he can "shop" for dinner in peace... :-)
What would you like with your dog:Â sauerkraut or relish ?
Chihuahuas or wiener doggies?
Looks very content...almost with a smirk on his face.Â
@washcomomÂ
Cheshire cat maybe?
@RalphCramden  Your liver must be shot.
What a looker, so handsome!!!
Lunch???
i want to play with it
And it, I'm sure, wants to play with you too! LOLÂ
Humor:Â The ole cat vs dog owner;Â
finally there was something interesting to watch at the dog park!  :)
