Snow level drops to 500 feet in Willamette Valley, SW Wash.
PORTLAND, Ore. – The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for snow from Southwest Washington through the Willamette Valley.
The advisory goes into effect at midnight Tuesday and is expected to last until 11 a.m.
One to three inches of snow is expected in elevations above 500 feet after midnight, the weather service said. Up to one inch of snow could possibly reach the valley floor during the early morning hours.
Snow flurries were widespread Tuesday morning with rain following only at the lowest elevations.

The City of Portland is warning drivers that travel will difficult Tuesday morning, especially in the hills.
The NWS expects around 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Coast Range, Coast Range Foothills and Cascade Foothills. Six to 12 inches are expected in the Cascades.
The Oregon Department of Transportation is warning drivers about slick road conditions near Sylvan on U.S. 26 and on U.S. 26 leading to Mount Hood.
"The higher elevations we're concerned about are Highway 26, Sunset Highway, especially around Sylvan Hill," said Kimberly Dinwiddie with ODOT. "Higher elevations and some of the foot hills surrounding the area highways. They can be tricky tomorrow is the snowstorm really does come."
KATU Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby said the snow level will drop down again Tuesday evening and snow could return overnight.
No snow at all downtown, so everything is clear, plan on going to work today!
I don't know about you but I'm ready for another "great" storm!

All those poor lawn decorations out there, freezing in the snow all lonely and stuff! Â Oh how my heart breaks.
OMG!!!!!!!! It's Snowmageddon all over again!!! The plows can't keep up. The drifts are 10 to 20 feet high and growing! Cars in the ditches! Massive gridlock! The city is paralyzed!  People resorting to cannibalism to survive.
Â
It seems that the Portland news stations resort to tabloid journalism when it comes to even a whiff of snow on Sylvan. They try to whip up something out of nothing.
Â
So, basically, nothing to see here, move along. Move along.
Â
Sheesh!
Â
Meh. It will never compare to the 136 inches we got where we lived last year. I would LOVE to see snow, I miss it.
bring on the snow. lets get 18" like we did a few years ago. that would be great
@Eric M Stanton Can we wait on that heavy snow until I pick up the last of the Christmas stuff I need? Pretty Please!
That year we had the big snow, I was late in getting everything we needed and ended up with no presents and Christmas Meatloaf for dinner. Well, at least I have the ham already. :)
RAIN/mix that is what we now no longer have ice on blow up snowman. temo is 36 atomic clock says 9:52:30
if it does indeed stick on the valley floor, i'll be sipping coffee and munching doughnuts watching the follies at the busiest intersection I can find!  (from a safe distance!)
@Umhal Make sure you are at an ingtersection with a nice hill. It's always a hoot watching the idiots slide down the streets an run into each other.
@Umhal why not take a camera with you :) and get up high some where..then you really can get some good stuff.

@Tom dogboy Collins LOL - my CJ is real-er than your Xj! :)
@Umhal @Tom dogboy Collins My YJ works fine.....not going to claim it is better....just a different type.
Approximately 8:30 pm, turned southbound onto 202nd from Sandy Blvd, it was snowing and the road was white. Was over by the time I passed over Powell.
@Lips It gives me some hope for snow angels soon, anyway!
If it snows it snows. Probably not now that we have the lighted candy canes...Hope to see some snow and get some pictures so Patrick will know that snow once did exhist and so he can say he was one of the last few kids to have played in it.
Of course if it does snow every idiot who thinks their 4X4 is invicible will be out causing mayhem for the smart and cautious driver.Â
@I812 Smart and cautious driver should have 4x4 and drive it safely. Two wheel drive will not outperform four wheel drive in slippery conditions ever. I have seen AWD yuppies sit and spin blocking road. Tire inflation and proper tires are big help.
@I812 The ones I think are most laughable are the ones that think the 4WD or AWD gives them not only better drive traction, but also some supernatural stopping power too! (sure, I'm factoring in modern anti-lock brake capability, but then again, once you lock your brakes on ice or packed snow, you ARE going to slide *some*). Please, please, please don't drive beyond what conditions dictate.

Every time the snow falls I think of those knuckleheads a few years back  just up hill from the MAC club and PGE park who thought they were invincible and ended playing bumper cars, god that was funny.
Yes. We're all going to be buried under 1000 feet of snow.
Â
No sense worrying about the weather. It'll do what it does.
Â
Just prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
@Mikey Preparation for the worst: lots of chocolate stockpiled!
@Mikey That really big snow we had several years back was so much fun. We (my sons, not me) had a tunnel dug down my road and a tunnel into my garage. You had to get up enough speed and hit it just right, but it was tons of fun. I don't know why people worry. It's just snow.
S*N*O*W*!!!
Winter ARMAGEDDON and Monster Truck Rally Coming Soon to a surface street near YOU !!!
Portland just does not get snow very often....this is why they are so sensational about it. Out here in the Gorge it snow's a little every day. Last year Hood River had a massive snow and ice storm that had fallen tree's crushing houses and thousands of people without power for almost a week. The Portland news never reported on it. They were too bustychasing their tails over wether it might snow an inch.Â
@momo 3 flakes at 3PM downtown and the whole city goes nuts. Never fails.
 @Mikey  @momo we love our snow...: )
If experience is any guide.... The fact that they 'see it coming' means it wont happen.Â
Â
Personally, I love the snow! I say bring it on.
Â
The rub is, Oregon drivers (for the most part) have NO clue how to drive in it. Especially those who own SUVs and AWD cars.Â
@MarkKpic My problem is, that as a native Oregonian, my feet don't even know how to walk in it! I always end up sliding and wrenching some part of my body. Ah well. To have snow, I will endure the pain as I love the snow. It always makes everything feel and smell clean & fresh.
Â
PS: I'm a smart one. I don't drive in it. Did it once long ago, hated it, and said never again. I can take the bus or Max and save my life and others. Of course, walking to the Max is what gets me slipping and sliding. LOL
@Kymberlie2873  @MarkKpic Try going up to the mountains once and a while. You will get the hang of it.
@MarkKpic yeah, but we sure can drive in rain unlike many places I have been.Â
@MarkKpic I'm with you mark, I'd love to have some down here in the valley.
@Sam  @MarkKpic ~  I enjoy the snow, but I can do without something like the snow & ice storm we had a few years ago..!  :-)
@Lips  @margay1  @Sam  @MarkKpic Yeah, it reminded me and my lil' brother of the big snow  here back in 1968/69 (around New Year's ) when we kids could simply  *step over* the tall chain link fence to the park behind our house  in NE because the drifts were sooooo deep! Cars were completely buried on our side street because all the snow from the park blew and drifted to that street.
The one a few years ago found me with a new dog (18 lbs) who fell into a few drifts ( and nearly disappeared) when walking atop them and had to be pulled out! Â Dog still here, still 18 lbs and will still insist on going out in the snow.
@margay1  @Sam  @MarkKpic That was one of the best winters ever.
 @margay1  @Sam  @MarkKpic I LOVE snow!! Bring it on!!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Get down to City Hall Last chance to see sami in his yellow ducky with the elmer fudd hat...
@gbudavid When he wears that hat he looks to be about a stupid as he often is.
Welcome back to the show that never ends in regards to more doom & gloom - it does not exist unless you are totally tupid, or drunk...
@boned "tupid or drunk" Which are you?
 @Old29  @boned he is tupid
