Woman, 18, killed in crash in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. — An 18-year-old woman driving a car out of a parking lot was killed when it collided with another car Thursday afternoon in Independence.

Police say five other people were hurt, including a, 8-year-old boy who was critically injured.

According to Independence Police Lieutenant Rick Igou, a woman was driving a Dodge Durango northbound on Stryker Road when it crashed into the driver's side of a passenger car driven by an 18-year old woman who pulled out from a parking lot near Stinson Street.

The 18-year-old woman died at the scene.

Igou said an adult female and 8-year old boy were also injured and taken by ambulance to a Salem Hospital. The boy was critically injured and the female’s injuries were minor. Police said everyone was wearing seat belts.

The Dodge driver’s injuries were not life-threatening. She was also taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital. Two boys in the SUV suffered minor injuries. All were believed to be using seat belts, police said.

Police say names will be released Friday.
