PORTLAND, Ore. – Police found a woman dead in a Northeast Portland home Saturday morning.
The Oregon Medical Examiner determined she died of a gunshot wound. She was identified Monday as 52-year-old Lori Lynn Erp.
Her husband, 56-year-old Lloyd Erp, was inside the home was taken into custody after he called 911, police said.
Someone who lives out of state called police early Saturday morning after receiving an email from Lloyd Erp. Police said the caller was concerned that Erp might be suicidal. Officers arrived at the man’s home, located in the 4200 block of Northeast Campaign Street, to check on him at around 5:40 a.m., but got no response from inside the home and left, according to police.
Nearly two hours later, Erp called 911 from inside the house. He said he was injured and there was a gun inside the home, police said. Officers kept him on the phone and convinced him to come outside where he was taken into custody.
"I saw ten, fifteen police officers huddled across the street behind a shield," said neighbor Ron Morris. "With a K-9 also."
Erp was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Neighbors said they saw him walk out of the house on his own.
Police said they went inside the home and found Lori Erp dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
No arrested have been made at this time. Lloyd Erp is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound, police said.
Officers said they found the gun and are not looking for any other suspects.
Billie McKenzie, who lives across the street, said she didn't know the couple very well. She believed they lived in the house for about a year.
"I'm just so sorry that happened," said McKenzie. "I only saw, I mostly saw the lady. She was out mowing her lawn. I often wondered why she was the one out there doing that. I only saw the man maybe a couple of times."

This is another case of hurried journalism. It's really hard to get any good information from this story.
LostSoul! The name fits you. I think I'll sell my house in the county and more to north Portland---NOTÂ What?
I think I'll sell my house in the country and move to north Portland---NOT
Very sad day for everyone.
@The Resistance yup especailly the millions of innocents we have made refugees in afghanistan and iraq and who will live with irradiated crap on their land, which contributes to thousands of birth problems and cancer incidences. respectfully.  yours in christ.
@The Resistance Truth be told.  Nobody is happy anymore.  Heck, we refuse to take care of our own and our government and pop culture always seems to succeed at putting us commoners at each others throats.
We live in the age of pessimism. Â That tends to be the way Liberalism in government survives. Â (Not partisan rhetoric, but fundamental fact)
@Silver Surfer I think a lot of that is that our own are fat lazy drug addicted morons.  but im not sure.Â
@The Resistance Well no.  Lots of people just aren't sad today.
@Benjamin Schniffle AS A NEWLY RETIRED PERrs pensioner with health, hot looks and at age 57 with lovely grown children and 1 gorgouse g-daughter i count my blessings and am happy every single day.. PRAISE THE KING!  (or allah)
This is one messed up story... who was the out of state caller, and who was the suicidal person, the man or the lady?
@Grammy54Â and why was she out mowing her lawn?
@Pers Retiree Because she wanted to.  It's the land of the free.  You against that you commie nazi socialist zionist!
Wow...That's just like Romeo and Juliette except rather than meeting secretly and falling in love they met at a smarmy bar and went home together and rather than planning a secret wedding they just boned like rabbits and rather than each committing suicide for the lost love of the other they got in a fight and he killed that woman and instead of being young and beautiful they were both kinda old and gross. That's why I don't go to bars because I never liked Shakespeare.
@Agness P Weatherby....and now "the townspeople" have to support the old gross guy and provide his meals.Â
@Philip MarloweÂ
Not for long...he'll be out in a couple of years. With good behavior and prisons crowed with high priority and dangerous super-criminal pot smokers...six months.
@Agness P Weatherby Yay, an intelligent humorist. Keep them coming!
@Agness P Weatherby ......that's pretty funny !!
@Agness P Weatherby ........I'm still laughing !
I think I'll sell my house in the county and more to north Portland---NOT
@LostSoul Really? You are THAT ignorant? First of all, North Portland was not mentioned, it was Northeast. Second, crime happens everywhere...even in the country. It may not be as common but it does happen. As a longtime (over 25 years) resident of North Portland, I get pretty frustrated with people who do not know the area making uninformed comments about it. Or people assuming that North Portland is THE crime haven of town. Listen to the police scanner sometime. You might get an education.
@Kymberlie2873 Hello Kyberlie, usually where there's smoke, there's fire.
You can accomplish so many things with a gun.
@peckishpete Hello Pete, you would have preferred a strangulation?

@feral Or in some cases, encouraged.
This initial story doesn't make any sense. Hopefully the update, if any, will be better written!
@jpk Don't hold your breath. Most of these stories appear to be written by a third grader who failed english composition.Â
Surely not a comment about our wonderful educational system? LOL
With the onset of instant and social media these days, I'm afraid journalism is doomed! Who wants to read other folks' opinions when they can instantly post their own and gain some sort of readership or recognition? I don[t think they give Pulitzer Prizes to on-line posters or Tweeters...........yet!   Â
@jpk .......or the state of "journalism" these days.
@I812 @jpk Should we start with your comment?
@jpk This what you get when you refuse to hold failing kids back and just pass them to the next grade, coupled with breeders that refuse to be parents.  W are rapidly moving to a society that is perfectly satisfied with the lowest common denominator being the standard of performance.Â
The title is misleading...it makes it sound like somebody else shot her.
@UtterReality Uhh....somebody else DID shoot her...what aren't you getting?
fracas, not quite correct. The man called the cops, said he was injured and the woman was dead....Doesn't sound like he did anything...Details will come....One day.
@fracas @UtterReality The story changed on us.  The first iteration made it sound like a suicide.
Northeast... next story.
