GRESHAM, Ore- It's a deadly accident that's still baffling investigators.

Police say 73-year-old Peggy Jennen was a passenger being driven by her best friend, 52-year-old Lisa Wilson.

"Lisa and Peggy were best of friends. They almost didn't do anything without each other," said Rod Irvin, a close family friend.

Police say Wilson was turning onto Northwest Division when somehow Peggy's door opened and she fell from the car.

It's a busy street and police say Peggy was lying in the road when an oncoming car ran right into her.

"She's a beautiful mom. She just wanted to make everyone happy. She wanted all of us to be happy. She was a beautiful mom and my best friend," said Joni Higgins, Peggy's daughter.

Higgins got the news early Thursday morning.

"We are just numb as a family. We woke up thinking it was going to be a normal day and so it's not," said Higgins.

Higgins doesn't know how her family will cope with the loss of a devoted mother and caring grandmother, and she sure doesn't know what to think of Lisa Wilson.

"I wasn't there. I don't know what happened. It was senseless. It changed a lot of lives. It affected a lot of lives," said Higgins.

The driver of the second car won't be charged. Wilson however, faces several charges including criminally negligent homicide, DUII, Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangerment. She has already been released from jail.
