Woman hit over the head, robbed at mall

TIGARD, Ore. – A 53-year-old mall employee who was walking home Monday was caught by surprise when a man attacked her, knocked her to the ground and then took off with her purse.
The man came up from behind her and hit her on the head with some kind of object, leaving her with stitches.
Police say the woman works at Washington Square Mall in one of the smaller shops.
She was walking from the Macy’s parking lot toward Wells Fargo after 9 p.m. when the man came out of nowhere.
According to the mall property manager, it was an unfortunate and isolated event.
Shoppers and employees can get mall security to escort them out of the mall if they ever feel uncomfortable.
Police say a witness may have seen a tan car leaving the mall that was similar to a mid-1990s Honda Accord. Mall surveillance video showed the car may have a lot of damage to the rear passenger-side door, police said, adding there may be other suspects involved.
Police are reminding folks to use the buddy system, be aware of their surroundings, change routes if they feel concerned and of course call police.
Just another night in the ghetto... oh wait

@Dr. Rawdog Ya lets base all our laws, rules, and things we do for safety on one single incident that fits your political agenda that really makes a lot sense....bad dog bad dog...

@FreedomRocks @Dr. Rawdog Stupid comment.
@Dr. Rawdog@FreedomRocksAs a true hypocritical lib I am sure you will point out the 1 or two cases where a weapon would not help and ignore the 1000 or more cases where it stopped a crime. Ignoring facts and running on emotion and ideology is what libs do best..
Leaving her with stitches!!!!! That is putting it lightly! She had THREE different broken bones in her face!!! She was brutally attacked!!! and for what.... a little cash. She wasn't walking home either! She was still on mall property!! It dissapoints me that the story is so innacurate! I hope those idiots get caught and get punished to the max!
What the hell does it matter if mall security will walk you out, if the person IS WALKING HOME. Have you not seen security in the mall? There is a reason why they are security at a mall.. lol
Normally they won't come out of "nowhere." Â It is that your situational awareness is not functioning (your mind on other things and not being ready for trouble). Â It is something that does not come natural to folks and so they are surprised when they "come out of nowhere" or so it seems to them. Â
Don't pay attention to your cell phone, keep your focus on things around you, don't pass too closely to areas which someone can hide, be looking around (keep your head on a swivel) and be prepared to act immediately (protect yourself).
I wonder, is it just here or is the entire country becoming a lawless wasteland?
Joe says buy a shotgun.
@Obongo Geddon Ya had she just pulled out her sawed off shot gun from under her dress and fired a few rounds off the bad guys would have scattered...what a great Joeism....
I always have a s-load of cash tips at the end of the night(downtown) Not only do I conceal carry,I'm hyper aware of my surroundings and especially if I'm being followed.I always know if someone is following me and I make it a point to let them know that I'm aware of them.
I guess the robber knew that this was a gun free zone. I wonder if he had a concealed club permit?
"Came out of nowhere".......... The KATU children have taken over the news desk for tonight !
@Rob C 503Â "Came out of nowhere"..........
Probably a Zombie
@I812Â @Rob C 503 LOL
@I812 @Rob C 503  "Rob" Zombie perhaps?   I know, Bewwwwwwwwww.
LOL! Over in another story somebody was talking about how Clackamas is almost as bad as Lloyd, and Washington Square is the one to go to. You can't win. Except at gun shows.
@Playanekes Clackamas is a hangout for the gangbangers. Even if you throw a diamond in a pig sty, it is still a pig sty.Â
"Police are reminding folks to use the buddy system, be aware of their surroundings, change routes if they feel concerned and of course call police."
Does this mean that police will not protect us and we have to protect ourselves?
@ Ralph...You remind me of a KATU reporter or someone on the Obama Admin. Comments that take away from the real accuracy of the story. Making your own senseless statements froma comment made by Police. Where the hell does it suggest they wont help. If your prior LE, you're a disgrace.
When seconds count, they are minutes away. First to complain, first to deny a levy to increase budget to hire more. Guess in your eyes they should be around every corner and just waiting for something to happen.
@tappedout15 You misinterpret Ralph's comment as a slam on LE - the point is that no matter how good they might be, it is impossible for LE to be everywhere at once and that they cannot usually prevent assaults/robberies from happening. They can only be reactionary - no matter how big their budget might be and how professional they are, they still must be called, dispatched and then travel to a scene. In most cases the incident is over - the cops are there to collect statements and evidence to try and bring the perpetrator to justice.Â
@tappedout15Â
My statement is called sarcasm. The political hacks say that we shouldn't protect ourselves but rather call 911 and let police handle it.
Sarcasm is a form or political dissent and can be considered humor in some situations.
As for police, they are just there to make reports after the incident. It is so rare for them to prevent something that it makes news when they do prevent something.
Citizens need to be prepared to protect themselves and take precautions to keep themselves safe.
@RalphCramden In other cities the police have have their budgets trimmed so much they are essentially saying you're on your own.
@axpman @RalphCramdenBudget or not, as @Rob C 503  points out above, we've always been on our own until we can even attempt to contact the police to try and summon them, let alone wait for their arrival.
@axpman @RalphCramden In *other* cities?
@RalphCramden ........when seconds count.......they're just minutes away !
@RalphCramden Seems rather ironic coming from someone who was previous LE (if I recall correctly. If not, I apologize).
