Woman killed in Lombard crash died instantly, police say

PORTLAND, Ore. - A woman who was killed in a crash in Northeast Portland last week died instantly, police said.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 in the 3600 block of Northeast Lombard Street.
Investigators have since determined that 47-year-old Belinda Kay Brambora lost control of her Nissan 200SX while heading westbound and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. She ended up hitting a Dodge Sprinter Van and was killed in the crash.
Lombard was shut down in the area for hours while investigators processed the scene.
Belinda is my sister. There was no medical condition. It was simply an accident. Thank you all for your support she will be missed.
Well I was there at the accident scene I took the van and car close up picture and unfortunately she was not wearing a seatbelt and ultimately was ejected from the vehicle. My condolences to all after by this unnecessary loss of life. RIP Sweet Lady

 @TheNightNinja You're a dick

I have heard that sweet Belinda had a 'medical episode', I haven't been able to confirm it yet but I knew this woman for years as a child. I grew up with her son and she was the closest thing I had to a mother figure back then. She'd always have a house full of kids and I don't know how but managed to feed us all. She had a constant smile and was always laughing. She was so genuine, caring and selfless. She will be greatly missed. Whatever happened here, the world has lost one of the good ones.  RIP Ms. Belinda
 @CRB Maybe the big guy upstairs just decided he wanted her back. People like that are a rare find, and you sound like you were incredibly lucky to have known her.
Â
Please accept my condolences for your loss.
@CRB. So sorry for your loss. â¤
I think that a lot of people on this list and others, like to make up excuses of fault so that they can believe that it wouldn't happen to them. Well, it can happen to you. All it takes is a split second ..., the type of car your driving ..., road conditions ..., and the wrong choice of action you take. My heart truly goes out to this woman and her family. I know how quickly it can happen.   Â
 @R. Gess Smith I don't why everyone overlooks a blown tire, it's the cause of many accidents like this. I had it happen in front of me once (although I saw it a few times when I was a kid and my dad was driving too)....car was on road, split second later car spun wildly off the road.
 @deejm2112  @R. Gess Smith I don't know why everyone overlooks a massive heart attack or aneurysm.  It said she died instantly....it didn't say the cause of her death was necessarily related to the crash.  One minute anyone of us can be cruising along in life and the next second a hole rips through your heart muscle, or a blood vessel in your head explodes.  Then it's lights out.  My condolences to the friends and family of this woman.
How the hell do you manage to lose control of a vehicle on a straight, flat section of road!?
@NGerblansky I heard my sister was cut off and loss controll trying to not get hit.
 @NGerblansky It must be easier than s..t. Idiots do this all over America. But I don't know how they do it, I've been driving for 46 yrs. and still have not been in any accidents. It might be because I don't want to be in any accidents, not even one! Maybe I have an attitude problem.
@swimbad @NGerblansky @swimbad.....appaerntly your parents had an accident. I couldn't imagine 2 particles colliding on purpose to make an ugly mess suxh as yourself. so not only are you you ugly you must be old too, which is a shame because you would figure somebody your age wouls already have learned basic manners. get bent
 @mister  @swimbad  @NGerblansky Actually it's my passion for life and the lives of others that make me do everything under the sun to prevent an accident. This was a nice lady I'm sure and it is sad that she lost her life but her first mistake was not wearing her seat belt and I don't know what her second mistake was but whatever it was it almost killed other people. Think about yourself and other people at all times when behind the wheel and you may live longer.
 @swimbad There's obviously something wrong with you, Swimbad. ;-)
Â
As for losing control...at 45 MPH it wouldn't really take much. Mechanical failure, bodily failure, any number of reasons. That's 66 feet per second...a lot can happen in one second.
Was speed, drugs or alcohol, or lack of seat belt a factor or maybe cell phone use?
Â
 @RalphCramden Or, and this is my guess, mechanical failure like a blown tire?
Â
Ralph, not every accident is related to a short attention span.
 @deejm2112  @RalphCramden Or what I had happen once - power steering pump went out while I was driving and the van suddenly started going off into another direction.
 @RalphCramden Ralph, don't lie. That's a gorilla look if anything! ;-)
 @Just Lookin Why didn't you just ask Manual why he did it? ;-)
 @Just LookinÂ
I grew up with cars that had power steering as an expensive option. All my cars had manual steering. To this day I look like a body builder with my large arms from driving those cars...8-}
 @Jenni S.  @deejm2112Â
That can be a real problem especially with a larger vehicle.
I had a tierod lock up once in a corner, and was glad for strong arms. Pulled over up the road, and the steering was fine. Never could make it do that again. It was a 1956 Silverhawk. With manual steering
 @deejm2112Â
A blown tire or a tie rod could have failed. You're right in that there are all kinds of reasons for this. I only listed the ones that could have prevented the accident. Blown tire crashes are relatively rare.
Â
She could have had a lit cigarette fall in her lap also.
@RalphCramden I can see how speed, drugs, alcohol, or cell phone use could cause an accident. I have never, ever heard that not using a seat belt caused an accident.
 @You're Kidding...Right Â
Not wearing a seat belt will not cause a crash but it has proven to cause a significant increase in mortality.
Â
These question are about the whole investigation. They know she crossed the centerline and that she died quickly but what caused her to cross the centerline and could a seatbelt have saved her.
Â
There is strong speculation that some folks commit suicide on impulse and will pull off their seatbelt and slam into a stationary object at high speeds. Some of that speculation includes aiming head on with another car.
 @RalphCramden  @You're Kidding...Right HuH ?
 @You're Kidding...Right  @RalphCramden If you pull 4 G's in a turn, you could fly out of your drivers seat and crash. Better wear your seat belt just in case!
