PORTLAND, Ore. – Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Milwaukie woman who they said stole $20,000 in cash from a nail salon employee’s purse on Thursday.

Deputies arrested Theresa Costello, 37, on a charge of aggravated theft.

An employee at the Number One Nail Salon, located on Southeast 82nd Avenue, called police to report that $20,000 in cash was missing from her purse and she suspected Costello had taken it, according to Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Kraus.

The employee said Costello was sitting in a chair where her purse was sitting earlier. She confronted Costello at her car.

When deputies arrived, they found the cash under the driver’s seat in Costello’s car. Costello admitted to taking the cash.

Deputies discovered Costello had a fugitive warrant for her arrest from Washington state on another theft charge. Costello was taken to the Clackamas County Jail.

The employee told deputies she had the large amount of cash in her purse because she was going shopping for a wedding ring with her fiancé.
