Group plans armed, walled community in Northern Idaho
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Marxists, socialists, liberals and establishment Republicans need not apply.
So says an unidentified group with a website which has details about The Citadel, a walled, planned community of up to 7,000 families to be built near St. Maries in Benewah County.
To live there, every able-bodied person 13 years or older is required to "demonstrate proficiency" in handguns and rifles, according to The Citadel's website.
And every able-bodied person "of age" within The Citadel must maintain a variant of the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle "with 1,000 rounds of ammo". (UpdateIs fortress city planned for North Idaho fact or fiction?)
Strange covenants, indeed, but The Citadel bills itself as a bastion of Jeffersonian liberty -- an armed, designated point of retreat when American society collapses. (Watch the Report >>>)
We wanted to call The Citadel and ask them about their plans for Northern Idaho but we couldn't find a phone number. And we're not the only journalists who are interested.
The Citadel's website says, after the Sandy Hook shootings, they've been contacted by a lot of reporters. But their website says "it's too early in the evolutionary process of the Citadel Project to accept these invitations" for interviews.
The Citadel's website says 20 mountain acres have already been purchased in Benewah County for the "first wave" of residents. But we could not independently confirm that.
And The Citadel also plans to build its own manufacturing plant -- for firearms.
We called community leaders in Benewah County for reaction but they have not yet returned our calls.

Let's all hope this Group inbreeds enough to go sterile. Â Amazed that some troll isn't asking why this is big news? Â It IS in Idaho, after all...
And a single missile will end them.  So much for standing up to whatever boogie men these weak willed hippies had in mind.
Â
It sounds like this is a militia and there preparing. These are not enemies but well needed friends.
@lee986321 You should move in with them.
Put a fence around liberal portland.
Although a lot of the posts read here on gun violence are widely divergent on content, I honestly must say that some where not too far in the future, there may be more "hideouts" like this. I hope not, however, as this great country, and all it (used to) stand for, will be destroyed. Anarchy will rule! An egg broken cannot be reassembled! Â
"And The Citadel also plans to build its own manufacturing plant -- for firearms." Oops that might be a problem. If the ATF knocks down your door and kicks your teeth in.... you have been warned.
@CorporateCowMoo If that is true, they are going Waco whacko and will definitely get some visitors.
Sounds great. Put up really good walls, then put a roof on it and make everything air tight.
Did someone say Branch Davidians, David Koresh, Waco TX?
It's Idaho, that explains a lot. Nutters with nutty ideas, they are all around us and we should laugh at them all.
Not substantially different than the walled & gated communities in Sacramento, LA, Marin... that *I* know of. Â No doubt they are more common than we know. Â These communities are occupied by bankers, investors, software inventors, and union representatives... they are typified by high walls, exclusive membership, and armed guards at the gates, roaming the streets, ever-present.
Aw, idiots who are looking for purpose in life get to play army men. Â Cute.
I say they should build more of these all over the country and let the NRA build them
What's the big deal? Rich people and politicians live this way all the time, the major difference being they use public money - our taxes - to pay their guards.Â
At least I know to where a few of our regulars here are going to relocate. Â Bon Voyage!
@Festivus I would never have guessed you leave this area, Festivus :)
