UNDATED - The Northwest may not have as much fresh air as originally thought, according to a study.

The government's latest snapshot of air pollution shows residents of New York, Oregon, Washington and California face the highest risk of developing cancer from breathing toxic chemicals.

The information is from 2002, the latest year the Environmental Protection Agency had detailed estimates.

According to the study, more than 862,000 New Yorkers run a higher risk of getting cancer due to air pollution. In California, that number is more than 445,000.

Oregon tallied around 140,000 people that are more at risk, closely followed by Washington with more than 105,000.
