Pass the plate, and other cancer fundraisers
PORTLAND, Ore. - KATU is proud to announce its new local partnership with Komen for the Cure. While most people are familiar with "Race for the Cure," there are ways to support breast cancer research year around - with very little effort.
1) You have undoubtedly seen the pink lids on Yoplait yogurts. Did you know that Yoplait will donate up to $1.5 million to Komen for these lids? Here is all you have to do: Mail in your lids by Dec. 31, and Yoplait will donate 10 cents per lid.
2) And what about this one? Test drive a Ford, Mercury or Lincoln car by the end of year, and Ford Motors will donate $20 to Komen. Just go online to print off the form.
3) This is my favorite one: It's called "Pass the Plate," from Kitchen Aid. I went online and purchased a platter for $25. I registered the plate on the Web site and then filled it up with goodies. I'll pass it to someone else, who then goes online, logs in the plate number and gets $5 donated to Komen on her behalf. Then that person fills the plate up with baked goods, and passes it along again, and so on. The site even allows you to track where your plate ends up.
