PORTLAND, Ore. -- We wage the battle against flu every year, but some people still skip one of the most important weapons against the virus: the flu shot.
The latest report from the Oregon Health Authority said there were 115 people hospitalized for the flu, and at least 11 people have died.
This year it's not necessarily the very young or very old who are being hardest hit, it's the people in the middle age groups, 18-64, who are suffering more.
It's people in those age groups who have typically been thought to be able to handle the virus better, but it's not the case this year.
Legacy Emanuel Hospital in North Portland is making it easy to get the whole family in for shots Monday. They're offering free flu shots at the following location:
Legacy Emanuel Hospital
2801 N. Gantenbein Ave.
11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Ages 6 months and older can get a flu shot.
When it comes to the vaccination, doctors say it takes two weeks to get full protection, but immunity does start almost immediately. So they say you should get that flu shot sooner, rather than later.
