Boston Marathon
"The finish line. I took a red-eye from Portland, so I'm exhausted but hopped up on excitement. In this photo, I've just come from the expo where an older woman handed me the race packet and asked if this was my first Boston. 'Yes,' I told her. She shook my hand, looked right into my eyes and said, 'Congratulations. You are going to have an amazing experience.' All of the volunteers seemed genuinely enthusiastic for each one of us. I really felt welcomed by the entire city. People stopped me on the street to ask if I was running and then congratulated me. I asked my hosts whether or not they got annoyed by all the extra people in town, and they seemed truly surprised. 'No! We love it!' For these reasons I had already decided I had to go back, and I hadn't even run yet."
