Front and center: FDA weighs serving sizes
SILVER SPRING, Md. – Federal government officials are calling for a re-vamp of nutrition labels.
The Food and Drug Administration workers want manufacturers to post nutritional information, including calorie counts, on the front of food packages.
Meanwhile, the FDA also wants to bring serving sizes for foods like chips, cookies and ice cream in line with how Americans really eat. That means calorie counts for multiple-serving items ranging from cold cereal to soup likely will drastically go up after labels are revamped.
No word as to when this change could take place.
Officials say their goal is to give people a jolt of reality – before they reach for another handful of chips.
