It's official: Obama nominates Lew to lead Treasury
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is announcing Treasury secretary nominee Jack Lew, pointing to his past work of balancing budgets during the Clinton administration.
The president says he feels "bittersweet" about losing Lew as his White House chief of staff but says "my loss will be the nation's gain."
He notes that Lew was budget director during the Clinton administration, when the budget ran a surplus for three years.
Lew is taking over Treasury as the administration prepares for a new fight with congressional Republicans over the nation's debt and deficits.
If confirmed, he will replace Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who led the department through the economic turmoil of the first term.
This is the guy whose signature looks like the frosting swirls on top of a hostess cupcake?  That's gonna look like a 3-year-old is signing our currency.
@Kachina It's OK. We've got a 5 year old running the White House. You know, the one that said he's been to ---57--- states.
Has this guy paid his holier-than-holy taxes?
Better check his taxes. Don't need to be having another tax cheat in charge of the treasury.
And yet another one of Obama's regime jumps ship as it slowly sinks. And yes, we all know that Bush had many changes during his administration. But since Democrats say that the country was going downhill during Bush's years, that becomes a moot point. Of course they leave. But Democrats tell us that everything is OK, everything is getting better, nothing to worry about. So why then are they jumping ship if everything's improving? Because it isn't.
@last boyscout The problem is that Lew didn't jump ship into the abyss, he jumped onto a bigger ship, to dictate our currency actions and taxes. Thank goodness he will not control the Secret Service, as they are now part of the Homeland Security.Â
Another academic with very little real world experience...good luck with that!
What, no mention of his signature here? I thought that was enough to disqualify him.
@JTesla Most of use learn cursive in primary school......most of us.
