Missing 13-year-old girl found dead in Calif. park
FAIRFIELD, Calif. (AP) - A 13-year-old girl reported missing Thursday has been found dead in a park in the Northern California city of Fairfield, police said.
A passer-by discovered the girl's naked body a little before 7 a.m. Friday in the city's Alan Witt Park and flagged down a police officer who was driving by, Fairfield Police Officer Cleo Mayoral said Saturday.
The girl was reported missing around 5:45 p.m. Thursday after she had left a foster home in nearby Suisun City, Mayoral said. Her name was not released.
An autopsy was performed, but Mayoral said officials weren't releasing the results. He did say that when the girl's body was found there were no obvious signs of trauma.
No suspect or suspects have been identified, but detectives were canvassing neighborhoods and checking video images from surveillance cameras as part of their investigation, Mayoral said.
"We have all our resources working on this," Mayoral said. "All our detectives, our crime scene people, our criminologists and our patrol division."
He added investigators were trying to track the girl's activities in the hours before she ended up in Alan Witt Park.
Sacramento television station CBS13 reported the girl attended Green Valley Middle School, which is about eight miles from the park.
School Principal Gregg Hubbs declined to comment on the girl's death, and Fairfield police couldn't say if she had attended school on the day she was reported missing. Fairfield police referred questions about the scope of the investigation to the Suisun City Police Department, which did not return repeated calls from The Associated Press seeking details on the case.

Foster Children are not safe anywhere in the USA; USED & ABUSED at home...then USED & ABUSED in the system...
Regardless of where she's from, this is really sad... 13 is just too damn young to have your life ended... May she rest in peace now...
This was likely a kid who'd suffered abuse of some sort her entire life. We're now reading about the last chapter of it and, as a parent, I can't find much comfort in the fact her suffering is over. You deserved better, little one.
She was a foster child( heart breaking) . What kind of a low life, would murder a child ? Laws need to be changed. It should be an automatic death penalty for the murder of a child.
@belinda even when the death penalty is handed out they still get 20 years to live before it's handed out which is b.s.  I also believe we need hanging trees brought back so we can save some electricity.  But that is another topic.
I'm sorry she was found dead, and my condolences to the parents. But how is this of interest to Portland area residents? Is it really that slow a Portland area news day? Or is there some other agenda at work? I'm sure there are other earth-shaking things going on in the world besides this unfortunate California girl gound in California. Inquiring minds want to know!
@jpk Could it be that unlike we are told everyday, Portland isn't really the center of the universe? Is there actually a real world out there? The murder of a 13 year old should concern everybody; would you be more interested if it had happened here?
the murder is of concern, but why to Portland Metro area viewers? This is from KATU which represents the local area. There are many other things going on not only here, but world wide that may be of relevance to the viewers in THIS area.
@shewiz  @jpk "We have all our resources working on this," Mayoral said. "All our detectives, our crime scene people, our criminologists and our patrol division." Sounds like they don't consider it an accident. But she has no local ties, so what does it matter? Hypothermia?
@jpk I'm not sure I read the word 'murder' in this story. It is possible she got hypothermia and started removing her clothes?
Â
@jpk I have to agree...when I started reading this I figured there were ties to the local area be it the girl or whomever did this to her...nope...just random news
@jpk hmm yeah like a few quakes and such that have not been reported. it would be nice to see an update at an amazing Geological event taking place off the coast of Oregon. a Nice 5.3 a few days ago. Or ..were you talking about t hat earth shacking even? Speaking of Earth quakes, looks like California is have a storm of them. Relatively small though Just 4.0's and a few lower ones..what I want to know is what fault line lays under Vancouver.
